[COMPLETED] PHP5 , PostGreSQL and ModSecurity on Shared Hosting Servers

We are starting another round of server upgrades that brings in a lot of new exciting and long awaited features to our shared hosting clients.

PHP 5 as Default PHP

We have been offering PHP 4 and PHP 5 side by side on all shared servers. Few servers still have PHP 4 setup as default PHP. As PHP 4 has already reached EOL and PHP development team has announced that there will be no more releases of PHP 4, we will be switching default PHP to PHP 5 on all Jaguar shared Servers. PHP 4 will be still available on servers and users that need PHP 4 can still choose it from cPanel > PHP Configuration. However It is highly recommended that all clients should update their code and switch to PHP 5. The migration instructions can be found at PHP: Migrating from PHP 4 to PHP 5.0.x - Manual.

ModSecurity

ModSecurity is a web application firewall to establish an additional security layer to detect and/or prevent attacks before they reach web applications. It provides protection from a range of attacks against web applications and allows for HTTP traffic monitoring. It is being deployed on all Jaguar shared Servers.

PostGreSQL

PostGreSQL will be made available on all Jaguar shared Servers. To manage PostGreSQL, PhpPgAdmin will be provided in cPanel and PHP will be having support for PostGreSQL.

Update: The shell_exec command is very sensitive in nature since this can be used to run normal shell commands via the scrip and thereby causing trouble with the services as well as the server. This being the case we are disabling it on all servers.

These upgrades/changes will be done in batches on all shared Servers and it will be announced in this thread.

Follow up: Initial Post has been updated. No changes will be made to PHP environment. We will be ONLY switching default php to PHP5 ,installing PostGreSQL and ModSecurity on Jaguar Shared hosting servers.
