    Question Question about Domain Parking

I have an account with Aletia with 2 domain names tied to it. I also have another account with one domain with a different hosting company and I was thinking I would consolidate them all at Aletia. What steps do I need to take to make this happen? Can anyone help? Thank you in advance for your time.

I would prefer (since I host 2 people on the other account) that they can still keep their same addresses.

Well, there are two different services offered by JPC/Aletia--parking and pointing (AKA multihosting). With a parked domain, when a person types that name into their browser, they'll see the same thing as if they typed the ain domain name. With a multihosted domain they will see a unique site which is actually hosted as a subdirectory of the main site.

For example, www.interbrite.com is my main domain. I have two other domains hosted on the site: www.logicalnet.net, which is parked and www.kodiakskorner.com, which is multihosted.

The process for making the move is pretty easy. If you are going to request a multihosted domain, create a subdomain in cpanel and move a copy of your current site (the one you want to move) into it. Then open a support ticket and ask to have the multihosting set up. If you just want to park the other site, you don't need to set up the subdomain, just contact support.

When support notifies you that everything is set up (you can do this before you hear from them, but doing it this way prevents downtime), go to the registrar that you bought the domain name from and change your DNS servers to be the same as you are using for your domains already hosted here. It will take a few days for the change to occur, during which time some visitors will end up on the site here while others end up on the old one. When you are sure that all traffic is going to this site, cancel the old one.

As for email, parked/multihoste domains can't get their own email addresses. You can fake it, though. Just create a pop box on the main domain and then make a pointer for the address on the parked/multihosted domain (i.e. bob@domain2.com -> bob@domain1.com, where domain2 is the parked/multihosted one and the domain1 adress is an actual pop account). Since most email programs let you specify whatever you want for your from address your users can continue to send and receive email from their old addresses. They will need to change the username in their clients to include the @domain1.com, though.

Hope this is the answer you were looking for...

Thank you, Jason. That explains it perfectly!
