what's wrong with that [those loads]? When scripts run rampant, people post those things with numbers in the 50s...
Yes, in a dual-processor system, which I believe all of JPC's servers are, a load of 2.0 is "normal." The numbers can go above 2.0 and you won't see much of a performance hit, but when they start getting really high it becomes a problem.

Well in recent times, I've found things rather sluggish. Before, load used to hover around 0.5 to 0.8 consistently.

That load isnt overloading a dual cpu, but if the load has recently quadruppled as you state then some user must have recently started doing things differently.
