    MovableType Rebuild Failing

For the last couple of years I've run a few MovableType weblogs, a collection of CGI scripts.

For the last several days when trying to rebuild the small individual entry pages the script stalls, never completes. A couple of times I got the "this page cannot be displayed" error.

Never had this happen before. Haven't changed anything in my setup.

I've opened a ticket but wanted to see if more experienced people might have any ideas or suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Richard

Which server are you on? It could have something to do with the slowness reported in other threads, speacially if there's packets that doesn't get through and things time out. Also make sure that the permissions and paths are set correctly.

I'm on copper and running MT too and haven't had any problems other than the occational failure to ping weblogs.com which is something on their end.

I'm on Utopia. I submitted a ticket but they said there's nothing wrong on their end. But I've noticed rebuilds being slower than they were before a couple of weeks ago (when I moved to Jaguar I was startled by how much faster it was than my prior host).

Four blogs rebuild just fine, one seems to have timed out about entry 852, the other stalls in the first set of 40.

From checking my Refer logs I found that the weblogs.com ping goes through 9 out of 10 of the time MT says it has failed.

I've asked on the MT support forum as well but have noticed these sorts of problems never produce usable answers.

    Thanks,
    Richard

Richard, try and change the timeout settings in the mt.cfg file as suggested here

I changed the time-out back when MT started reporting TB errors. Thanks for the suggestion.

Now if I can just figure out which record is damanged so I can delete it from the weblog.

Finally found the entry that would cause the script to freeze. Didn't understand why but deleting it fixed this problem.

Glad you finally found it. Now if only MT would do a bit of better error logging so one could actually see which entry causes a freeze. I know you can get a kind of idea with the "Now rebuilding entry xx - xx , but that's a suggestion for the MT forums
