    Looking for Messageboard

Something very simple to maintain (I am a non technical person), free (or very, very cheap) , allowed on JagPC servers and it doesn't have to have all the fancy smancy features like most MBs have today. I'm thinking something along the lines of Matts old MB in simplicity.

I know there's PHPBB etc but that is really overkill for what I need. We're a small group of online friends (Max 10) who keep in contact with each other. Until now we've been using Network54, but they're starting to have too many problems.

Well, I would go with phpBB. It might seem like overkill now, but what's security worth to you? That's the name of the game these days. The script kiddies will fry your site in a heartbeat with script injections if you pick the wrong BBS - believe me on this!

A good alternative would be IB. There is no charge for it for single useage.

A blogger might be the best way for you to go, but I've never run one before, so maybe someone else can pick it up from here...

Seems like they've decided to stick it out. Gives me more time to look around and/or get real comfortable with PhpBB

    Thanks Vin

Looked around for vbulleting lite, but unfortunately it was discontinued about a year ago. I'll keep looking though, but will probably end up using PhpBB anyway.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with phpBB.

While I know that you don't feel the need for the features, you may find that some of the things that it offers are indeed an asset to the communication you share with your group of friends. And, as Vin said, they are quite attentive to security issues.

Our site used to use phpBB but we switched over to a content management system (xoops). While we are very happy with xoops and it's features, the support and resources of phpBB are such that I occasionally look longingly at their site to see when the phpBB Content Management System will be available (if indeed, it is going to be available). Long story short (mercifully, I'm sure), I enjoyed using phpBB a great deal!

I suspect that you will, too.

I'd sugguest MercuryBoard once they get the site up. I have a beta version on my site.

Question If the script is installed, how do we exploit it?

I've messed with DCforums before, but with only limited success.

They advertise php as being installed, how does that effect setting up a BBS within my web site?

How could I possibly setup multiple BBS' within a single web site? Can I have multiple boards setup, each under a different sub-domain?

How decent is the backup of topics and such?
