    Question Flakey Uranium

Uranium has been up and down for a few days now - any idea what the prognosis is? A lot of my employees are upset about being unable to send/receive email and I have very little to tell them since there have been no posts or status announcements or anything.
    Thanks.

Yes, tech staff, please update us as to what is going on. One of my resold sites is offline as well.

    Thanks!

Please check the news and updates section.

Basically its been going down off/on yesterday and I beleive the day before. We thought there was some misconfig issue on some new update or something or perhaps a out of control script.

We didnt find anything but as the fates would have it the drive crashed and we're rebuilding with a new drive. Im sure its safe to say at this point the drive was the culprit this whole time and just didnt show us the typical i/o errors or dmesg info we normally look for on hardware issues.

As we work on the restore we will keep you all updated. It should be back to rock stable when its restored with new hardware.

Odd, but I checked the News & Updates section before I made the original post, and that announcement re Uranium was not there at that time.

    Thanks for responding.

Can we get a estimate on how much longer Uranium will be down?

yeah that would be good, i'm sick of people asking me over msn "when will the forum be back up"

I Suppose if they are changing the drive and putting a new one in then things can only get better

It's about 2:40 Eastern time, the network status page has been showing that Uranium is up and fully functional for over an hour, yet I still can't open my web site or send/receive email.

Is the server actually back up, and it's just my domain with a problem, or is everyone still down.

Nothing on the News & Updates section - I just checked.

The fact that the server is listed as up, could be that all services are running, but the restore is still in progress.

I know when at a place I used to work we had a server that needed several hours to 'rebuild' its index or filesystem after a crash. During that time the *machine* was up and running, but you couldn't actually access any files on it.

In any case, an update would be welcome as it seems the server has been down for about 5 hours now, and the news and announcements said
Affected clients should expect to be back up and running soon.
In any case I can say I have been experiencing a flakey Uranium server since October. I really do hope it was the harddisk and things will once again improve.

    Fingers crossed!

I just raised a ticket and got the following reply:

Currently the data is being copied from backup to the new hard drive. Due to enormous size of data, it may take an our or two more for complete restoration.

its more than 5 hours...almost 12. I live in the UK and its been down from at least 11am till now (10:30PM), so i have lost a day of my website more or less (awake hours).
But like i say hopefully this is the start of good things. My website has been going slower over the past month or so, then mysql and other things going down over the past week, doesnt reflect good on my site, espeically as i am trying to expand...it always seems to go down when i plan to do things

    Uranium restoration still ongoing?

Well, I first noticed my site off-line at 1AM Houston time. It's now 4:30PM in Houston so we're over 15 hours - And it's been four hours since I saw the server was back up and filed a ticket. At that time I was also told it would be 1-2 hours to restore Uranium.

I'd sure like another update - I recall Uranium had a pair of 80G drives - 1-2 hours should have been right ...

well my site is up now, apart from the SQL Errors and the work i had done 48 hours ago was lost, but at least it is up.

Of course i have backups i have re-uploaded, but it would of been nice for someone to tell us "if you have uploaded anything within the past x hours you may need to reupload it", instead of me scratching my head for 2 hours at why things werent working.
