Just created new account, is there a problem?

Seven hours ago I logged onto Jaguar's website and clicked "Add Account" to create another hosting account and register a domain name. I then used the IP number to logon to FTP and upload all the files. However, when I attempt to go to the website using the IP addy, I get an otherwise blank page with only the text "There is no website configured at this address." (Yes, I did upload an index.html file.) And, according to AleticNIC, the domain name is still available. Should I continue to wait, or is a support ticket in order?

    Domain : millenniumbirdhouses.com
    IP : 69.73.170.10

Sorry if I'm being too rudimentary, but where did you put the file[s]? Which folder?

Try 69.73.170.10/~USERNAME, where USERNAME is the FTP/Cpanel login name.

Try 69.73.170.10/~USERNAME, where USERNAME is the FTP/Cpanel login name.
That works, redirects to http://atom.nocdirect.com/~USERNAME/ and displays the pages I uploaded.

As an addition to my original post, my Control Panel shows the Disk Usage as 0.00, but I have uploaded about 3MB of files.

If I'm not mistaken, this implies that new accounts are being virtually hosted. What happened to having a dedicated IP for every account?

Well, almost all of JPC's accounts are "virtually hosted," if they aren't on a dedicated server then they are virtual accounts. A while back Jag announced that they would probably stop issuing unique IP addresses for new accounts, and from the looks of things, they have. The account info page at http://www.jaguarpc.com/index.php?loc=hosting now shows dedicated IP's at $1/mo and makes no mention of any of the accounts coming with dedicated IP's.

But if you've been here for a while you still have a dedicated IP.

How long should I expect it to take for a domain name to resolve? I figured maybe a day or two, but I am a little concerned because AletiaNIC is still listing the domain as being available.

Domain names usually start resolving in 24 hours with some registers. The
name can take 72 hours or more to resolve across the Internet. I think your problem
about AletiaNIC still showing the name as available may be a different issue.
Did you register the name with AletiaNIC? If you did I would think the
name would show up with them immediately as unavailable. You might have
    some cause to be worried.

If you haven't already, go to Aletianic.com pronto (or your domain registrar of choice) and register the desired domain name. It's a separate thing from the account with its own separate charge (unless it's been included as part of a promotion). I expect that the domain name you give in the form you filled out for a new account is only to let Jaguar know where to point the account, unless you've given them special instructions to register that domain name for you as well.

The add account form could be a lot clearer, I know.

I didn't want to wait all weekend to get a response from sales support, so I went ahead and registered the domain name myself--it hadn't been registered when I created the hosting account.

It has been a couple years since I've created an account, but when I opened my account at Aletia I'm pretty sure the domain registration was included in the process. Actually, at that time the domain name was registered for free with annual payment plans.

BTW, sorry for the delayed response. I couldn't remember my username/password combo, and received this error message when I attempted to have it emailed to me:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: vbmail() in /home/jpc/www/jaguarpc/forums/member.php on line 171

I don't think JPC is doing any domain registrations automatically these days. If I remember correctly (from when a friend signed up a couple months ago), if you say you wnat to register a new domain name, you are given a link to the registration site at the end of the signup process (although it is kind of easy to miss).

    Yes.

Aletia once included the domain name for free with a yearly signup and did the registration for you. As I recall, that promotion for new yearly accounts was dropped just before the Jaguar buyout, and shortly after the AletiaNic site went up.
