    Angry RBL Blacklisting

Just wanted to ask if any of you who have had problems with JagPC being blacklisted by AOL (Among others) still are having the same problems?

I'm asking because in the last month I've been going back and forth between JagPC and my ISP about why email from my domain (serialpurrs.org hosted at copper) didn't get to my ISP when/if I sent something. Turns out that my ISP is using RBL filtering to cut down on junk (Didn't find that out until now) and silently dumped any mail sent from my domain. Right now I'm trying to get them to whitelist my domain but from what my dh (Works with the owners) said tonight, it's gonna be a cold day in hell before it happens either that or JagPC gotta do some real serious work to get off the RBL lists.

I'm happy that my ISP are using the RBL. Have had the spamfilters turned off for the last month to troubleshoot and needless to say I've been flooded (No Vin not at the amount you get).

Any idea of which RBL(s) your ISP is using? There are so many of them these days that it can be hard to keep up...

Not at present time. They like to go through my dh with and for info, so I'll have to wait until he can get hold of them :|

    This is an ongoing problem...

Currently, many folks on my forum can't receive mail generated by phpBB if they are at Juno, NetZero, AOL or Earthlink - all of them block mail from krypton.

Earthlink sends a nice reply that asks you to seek permission from the recipient, after which the emails will go through - only to that recipient.

Juno and NetZero bounce the mail with a 550 error (access denied) - krypton.nocdirect.com is in whatever RBL they use, per a response I got from them.

And since these bounce emails get sent to the phpBB forum mail contact (me), the person who initiated the email through phpBB has no idea it didn't go through.

Yeah, I could follow up with Jag and/or the ISP's and probably get things working again. But it's a never ending battle - a month later, you're back where you started, and I just don't have the time...

I think what I'll try next - configuring phpBB to use my SpeakEasy mail server. I've never heard of them being on an RBL.

It seems to suggest that the time has come to find some way to let the folks with a dedicated IP (still the vast majority I assume) send mail from their own IP instead of the server's IP. That way one won't be blocked for another users bad behaviour.

It may also help to strictly limit the number of servers taking on new clients (i.e. fill them up one by one and then don't add new clients anymore for a good LONG time), as I assume the spamming bastards that cause this are come and go accounts, i.e.: folks that sign up, send as much spam as possible, get caught, and move on. Hopefully that would mean one is NOT back where he started a month later...
