    Invision Board from cpanel . . .

I am thinking of loading the Invision Board forum from the cpanel but have seen no instructions posted on how to do so. I want to click the link in the cpanel but do not know what happens when I do.

What should I do to be prepared? What else should I know?

    Thanks

I haven't installed invision board, but I have played with a few of the preinstallers. Generally, what happens is you get a form asking you to set up some settings for the app you are installing.

In the case of the INvision Board installer, you're asked for a location (youdomain.com/______) and an admin username and password. When you provide that, it installs and you should be ready to go.

Also Want to Point out that Cpanel Often Has outdated Versions of the Software which can lead to Secuirty Issuse

it is IMO alwasy best to Get the Software directly from the Vendor

IPB is free and can be dowloaded from their web site, and it is very easy to install,

I think CP still has 1.2??? there have been several Security Updates and one Version Update since then, and 2.0 is right around the corner which has MAJOR changes to everything

    Cant Wait,

IF you have any IPB related question, just ask, I love it, I have been using it for about 3 years, Life Time Registared Customer......

    thanks Michael

Since I will have virtually no traffic what so ever I will most likely opt for the free version. I do have the last free version downloaded but was thinking if cpanel could install it for me ... why not?

I will keep you in mind if I run into problems.

Personally, I think this is the best way for most ppl to install a proggie on their web server. Let me explain...

I run my own install of phpMyAdmin in my web space. Why? Because I want to run the latest version, plus it allows me to implement features that are not available in the cPanel version. Dittos for SquirrelMail. To do this is a simple matter, if you know how to install PHP proggies. However, most ppl don't know how to do this. So, if you decide to install phpMyAdmin or SquirrelMail in your web space, you MUST know what you're doing. You have no choice in this matter, since there is NO auto-installer available for them.

Moving along, the beauty of the cPanel auto-installer is it will allow you to effortlessly try a proggie to see if you like it. If you don't know jack about installing proggies on a web server - no big deal - it will do it for you. Then, if you decide you like the proggie, all you have to do is download the latest version and copy the files over to your server, maintaining the directory structure, and maybe doing a little tweaking to the config file and so forth. It REALLY streamlines the process and does away with a lot of guess work and frustration for n00bs.

So, indeed, as you asked, why NOT take the low road and let the auto-installer do the 'dirty work'? The end result will be the same.

Well, in that case, just go get the proggie and install it. No big deal.

Am I missing something here? Are you simply asking what will happen if you start clicking those auto-install buttons?

    I am the curious type.

I didn't check Invision Board for a while and now I can't find a free download link on their website. I realize they want to get paid, but I thought they still have a free version, don't they?

Go to "Download and Pricing" and then at the bottom of the yellow box under "Download IPB" you'll find a link to "Download Free Trial Version."

    Thanks, Jason.

I thought trial version is some limited version, not the free version
