I have some dumb ass questions. Please help!

    Hi all,
I feel like an idiot but I have to ask the following questions.

    1. I have a v200 (hosted) account. For example, my domain name is dumbass.com. Since this is a hosted domain, there should a URL that is like "www.xyz.com/~myusername". What is that URL? What is my username? This "www.xyz.com/~myusername" should be equivalent to "www.dumbass.com", right?

    2. What is the URL for the secure server here? Is it "https://secure00.nocdirect.com" or "https://secure37.nocdirect.com"? I am trying to set up a site to test the osCommerce shopping cart.

    Thanks.

    Scott

Go to your cpanel page which would be at
https://www.dumbass.com:2083 (For a nice secure password transmission and session)

(Ignore/accept any security warnings you get)

Your machine name is in the upper left-hand corner of the page and yes, <machine>.nocdirect.com/~<username> works for me.

For other info about your SSL certificate, log into Jag's support site and look at the Network Status (I find it very difficult to locate it). If your machine has one, it and any aliases to it should be listed there.

As far as your username goes, it shosuld be in the welcome email sent to you... also if you look in your cpanel email, the name of the top email acount (marked with a blue circle) should be your username.

If you can log into the CPanel you know the username portion of the URL--it will be the same as the username you used to log in.

As for the secure URL, you'll want to use the secure##.nocdirect.com address that is listed in your welcome email and on the network status page that Ron refered to. This address is linked to a third-party certificate that most browsers will trust. You can use the server name (silicon.nocdirect.com, for example), but the certificate won't be trusted and will result in browsers showing security warning message when someone tries to acces your site, not a good thing for e-commerce.

There isn't one listed. I remember someone from JPC saying that the servers that had old Aletia clients on them weren't going to get certs because they weren't part of the plan with Aletia, but then I also thought that someone also said that they were going to look into getting them. I guess that never happened. Maybe this is something you should bring up with Jag...

I don't need one on that machine at the moment. It was just a point that I was crudely making that perhaps Scott didn't have one....

I'm a former Aletia client (on the server silver). When I asked support about the possibility of me using a shared certificate, they told me there wasn't one availale on silver. But they also offered to move my site to another server that had a certificate, if I really wanted to use one.

I decided to leave it where it is for now. But I assume they would also offer the same thing to anyone else who asked.

Sorry for the double post folks, my ISP is having network issues today.

On the bright side, I'm just six days away from having broadband access.

...and in 1986, the Red Sox were just one strike away...
