I found an example. Click the link in this post by ZX:I would appear, upon re-examination, that the 'truncated' URl's (like the ones above) got trashed. Shorter, e.g. 'untrancated' or whole URl's look like they are still okay.

Looks like at least links and quotes are hosed... who knows what else? Maybe I'll start getting emails from the board now.

So... at current, the entire knowledge base (which I used extremely often to find out answers to scripting/apache issues) is hosed.

Jag, I'd rather see you lose a day or two worth of posts if you can restore the forum back to a better state (if you've got a viable backup.)

    Good luck...

How did Jag upgrading this forum affect anyone other than we could not access the Jag forums?

As I understand "Vins" & "Rons" post this update affected forums on their web-sites. I'm I correct or am I missing something?

No, sorry! Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying. This did NOT affect my site. It affected the JagPC forums.

Yesterday, a propective JagPC customer wanted a link to a 1Mb download from someone hosted here, so he could do a real-life speed test on a real-life JagPC hosted web site. I furnished him with a link to a 1.18Mb download on my site.

Today, when I checked his thread, I noticed the link was all jacked up. So, I edited the link.

Then, I noticed in the 'Announcements' forum that Jag said there had been a failed forum upgrade, and I put 2 'n' 2 together. I noticed other links that were messed up, in other threads.

Ron noticed the "quotes" were smoked . I noticed this too, but didn't comment on it. I thought maybe some ppl didn't know how to use the 'quote feature', but that didn't make sense, so I think Ron is right. He also noticed some other problems, blah, blah, blah...

Well I know that the vB3 database structure is incompatible with vB2, so if he did get through that part of the upgrade process, he had to revert back to the original database to make the board work at all with the vB2 files.

Also, Jag if you had read the announcement for the release of Gold, you would have known that the templates would have to be redone. In my opinion though, that would be worth doing, as vB3 is feature rich, and looks much nicer as far as the control panel and posting areas.

since it looks like this board is back to running 2.3.0, I'll chime in...

Jag - did you try to go straight from 2.3.0 to 3.0RC3 (or Gold)? There are a number of posts on vbulletin.com that caution about going to an incremental 2.3.4 (I think this is the right one) version before continuing. We built a staging area where we went for broke and it blew up completely...

However, going to xx.4 first, then continuing with the RC4/Gold update seemed to happen beautifully. Of course, this is still on the staged site, but it's pulling from an essentially duplicated set of data (the tables upgraded very gracefully). We're currently going through and tweaking this, hacking that, and rebuilding the templates. We've also been playing since RC3 first hit... a bit paranoid, I guess!

    *edit*
duh... realized that Jag hasn't been in this thread...

Updating the tables is a piece of cake. It's the theme changes, hacks, et cetera that are killing everybody...

Exactly - the site has tons of mods/hacks etc, and used a completely original theme. The tables came in nicely, as I mentioned. Since the whole thing died the first time, we just started from scratch, and I didn't think about checking precisely what killed it.
