    restoring sql database.

    Okay here's a quick question...

I'm uploading my .gz database backup file to restore an sql database.

Now after fill out the fields, and hit "go" the MSN flag keeps waving, and my status bar fills all the way up, however the page just sits there.

The size of the backup is roughly 30MBs, do these things usually take a long time to upload, and recreate my database?

Sounds like you're using MSN Explorer or IE. So, yes, the status bar will be filled all the way up a LONG time before the upload is actually completed.

Start the upload and go grab a bite to eat or something. A watched pot never boils, y'know!

here's an error l'm getting, when l try to upload with a different backup file that l've got:

    Code:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded in /home/usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/libraries/read_dump.lib.php on line 101
    any thoughts, suggestions?

Well, that first problem looks like the script isn't dropping the tables, for whatever reason. When that happens to me, I use phpMyAdmin and drop them manually. Then I do a restore.

Speaking of phpMyAdmin, the second problem looks like you are timing out, obviously. This is a common problem. The way I got around this is by installing phpMyAdmin in my own web space, uploading the backup to the server, in a directory specified in phpMyAdmin... and I do it from there.

There are MANY ways around this second problem, but I worked 3 days straight with only 4 hours sleep, so I'll let someone else tell you how to trick the system. I need to get some shut-eye...

okay, well l installed myphpadmin on my site, and when l go to upload my database, after it's loaded it doesn't actually recreate my database. I'm still getting:

    Code:
    Database xxx_testbackups running on localhost
    No SQL query!

    No tables found in database.
The backup that l'm using l downloaded from the cpanel, l've tried it with both compressed, and uncompressed. The size of the database is roughly 30MBs

The size of the compressed backup file is: 7,093,328 bytes.

What options do l have here?
