    Filezilla

I seem to be a collector of odd problems when it comes to the web. A few weeks back I discovered Filezilla and was delighted to find a freeware FTP client that I liked. (SmartFTP doesn't count because it nags and requires payment for commercial use.)

Not long after I found my domain would suddenly become inaccessible from this computer. I'd have to reboot the PC to be able to view my domain again. I figured it was my ISP's fault. Having been able to reproduce the effect on demand I've come to realize that it is Filezilla.

Filezilla worked fine with me at first. But as I said I can do this at anytime just by trying to FTP into my domain with it. Filezilla will connect but the moment it tries to list the site's contents it fails and my domain becomes invisible.

I downloaded the latest update hoping that would fix it. No luck. This isn't a big issue. There are plenty of FTP clients about. But I like Filezilla and was wondering if anyone with smarts in this area might have a guess. I haven't changed any of the default settings. One day it worked, the next day it didn't.

I had a problem with Filezilla (it sounds like the same you're experiencing) after I installed a firewall program. I fixed it by going to the options menu, under firewall settings and checked the box marked "Passive Mode."

That did the trick for me.
