    Jag Changes?

I was wondering if JAG has implented some sort of firewall technology over this past weekend.

All three of my third-party-hosted hit counters started to malfunction, perhaps sometime Saturday.

The symptom is that I get an error on first login to my website... on IE it says: "Done but with errors on page". On refresh the error goes away.

I would think that the problem is with the counter company (sitemeter.com) but when I look at other clients of theirs, they are not experiencing the issue.

(It shows up as all of my referrals are coming from my own domain, because their first page view is not seen due to the error).

So is Javascript being somehow filtered now on neon?

I really don't want to open a ticket on this, as I'm still not sure where the problem is.... yet.

    Thanks in Advance.

No changes were made in this way that would affect your counter. I know you don't want to hear this, but you will need to open a ticket and have a technician look into it for you. If you continue to have problems after opening a ticket, please PM me and I'll personally look into it.

Well, the counter company contacted me, and they see the same thing.... they are thinking that it is a connectivity issue on their end, so I'll let them work through it from their side.

    Thanks.

PS, I'm not afraid to open tickets.... I don't want to cause work for a problem that may not exist. Was just hoping that someone like you might wander by and know if there were changes that might, even possibly, be affecting cross-domain javascript requests... though I don't think it would be my hosts' problem... I'd guess the script text and url is downloaded to my browser, and my browser makes the request of sitemeter to get the class and so forth.

Just wondering of somehow the initial load of my page was being filtered on the way out by Jag, which would be very unusual, I'd think.

    Ron,

I have used sitemeter on 2 sites for some time without a problem. Both sites are on different servers. I have never been completely satisfied with sitemeter. However I could never find a better solution. I think I have IMHO.

Check this out. Tracking site The stats are now on your server. They have on of the best on-line demos I have ever seen. I have been searching for something like this for the last year.

This is not free. The cost is less than $30.00 USD per site. The stats are much better than sitemeter. If you are using a paid version of site meter like I am on one site the down load options are better.

If it's in Perl vs javascript, doesn't it lack the ability to do a bunch of things that sitemeter does?

Just curious. Will look into it after Millionaire.

Ron. Just look at the site. If you use site meter I guarante this is a better program.

If your using the free sitemeter then you may not want to spend
$30.00 USD for software that will give you a lot more information than sitemeter.

The link was a suggestion for an alternative that provides a lot more inormation than sitemeter.

I don't make any thing from this. I was trying to share some informtion that I found helpful. If you don't think the information is helpful, no skin off by back.

    clssam,
Call me dense but what exactly does this emoticon stand for? I've been trying to figure it out but the image title does really go with anything that I've imagined. Does it mean "I'm offering a handshake", "I'm poking you to get your attention or wake you up", "I'm poking you to tease you", or what?

$30 wasn't the problem -- I was asking if it would be missing some stats that sitemeter has because I was assuming it was written in Perl.

I made that assumption, because the URL of the site you directed me to was Perlonline.com.

After looking into it, I see that they are using javascript, just like Sitemeter. I also went to their demo site, and played around for a bit.

What do you see in there that is better than sitemeter? It looks like all the same stuff, but a lot less. No charts and graphs... screens and screens of white space while trying to look at, say , the last 20 visitors. (advlogger gives 50 on the page vs 20 for sitemeter, but advlogger's page is 15 screens long, and sitemeter is contained on one screen a 6 to 1 ratio)

Rather than just re-asserting that advlogger is better, can you give me an idea of what features exactly you prefer?

    Thanks! (I really mean it!)

I wondered about that emoticon too, Spath. I think that he may be inviting you to "pull his finger". (don't do it, it's a trap)
Gravity, more than a good idea, it's the law!

Well it was after 5 and I'm not sure what I meant other than Ron and I are engaged in a friendly discussion with a difference of opinion. Maybe this emoticon would have been more appropriate.

If I used the emoticon in poor taste I apologize. That certainly was not my intention.

I know all of you will understand this.

    Hi Ron,

I looked at your index page today. Nice site by the way. Just so you know I have a Sheltie. He's my furball son.

If I understood your site correctly from the index page it is an informational site. If I'm correct the stats provided by site meter are probably adequate for your purposes.

I have shopping sites. Here are a few features you seem to have overlooked
    which are important to me.

1: The ability to download specific files.
A couple of important ones to me. Search Engine Key Words and Entry pages.

2: There are bar graphs. Not as compact as site meter and there is not weekly graph. The graphs are based on Day, Hour, or Month. I agree I would like to see a Weekly graph.

3: I can track any visitor from entry page to the last page they viewed. If a visitor has 7 page views I can look at every page they looked at.

4: Screen Resolution. I not only want to know browser, operating system, I want to know screen resolution.

5: The program is yours. It runs on your web-space not on some one elses space. There are several features you can customize.

Do I think this is the Ultimate. NO. However for my purposes It is better than paying Site Meter $6.98 per month for less statistics.

Any way so that I don't post anymore confussing emotiocons

    No disagreement here....???

    Anyway, aha! There's the problems...

    1) I thought SM had screenres... but I don't see it.
    2) I have another internal counter that I use to trace users around.

I dunno.... hate to give up all that history, too............

You know, I think that might be the most accurate description given the "expressions" on the faces of the smilies, particularly the blue one and its reticence. Who'd a thunk digital smilies could be so sophisticated?

    clssam,
I wasn't making any association, per se, about your particular quote... I was just curious because I've thought about using different icons on different occasions and didn't really know what it's supposed to represent. I mean is pretty easy, is obvious, and , well that's just silly. But smilies with sticks? Open to some interpretation... at least among the dimwitted among us.
