    Subdomain Site loading question

I have search the forum and it is my understanding that the subdomain should not have the www included in the url..

I have found that sometimes the www is needed and at other times it is not needed for the page to load.

I have several Subdomains. This one currently loads without the www in front
    http://gardenofhope.graphicdesignplus.com

Yet this one that didn't need the www now does to load in
    http://knightsrealm.graphicdesignplus.com

Has anyone had this problem and if so how was it resolved??

    TIA

First one works here and now. Neither works with "www" in front, nor do I think they should; your understanding of that is fine.

Have you tried simply deleting and recreating the subdomain from the CPanel? Note: do back up that folder first, just in case deleting the subdomain takes the matching folder with it.

Update - retry after Vin's reply: still same results. So, first thought: DNS not updated with last change yet (either Vin's or mine); second thought something with a browser: IE6.0 (NL) here.

Hrm... both of those links are working for me...

This is paramount! Make sure that cPanel creates the subdomain folder. In other words, don't create the subdirectory yourself, then tell cPanel to make it a subdomain. Tell cPanel to make the subdomain and let it create the subdirectory for you. THEN put your content in it.

LoL! Does that make sense? I just woke up...

    Thanks

Both the sites I posted work without the www in front as I type this. Yet when I posted I could only get the 'Knights' site to load with the www in front.

I have deleted and recreated the subdomains several times and for most of the day they (5 in total) worked without the www. It seems to be a spasmotic thing.

As I type I have three that work and two that don't.

I was wondering if it could be something to do with the fact they have only recently be created.

    Hi

Yep that is the thing.. for the most part they work as they should without the www yet I get occasions where I have to put that in to get to them.

This is one that needs the www as I type this... It may work when you try because these urls are not consistant.

Edited to add that I have created these subdomains via the cPanel then added the content via ftp to the folders the cPanel created.

Well, when I first signed up here, it took 2-3 days for a subdomain to resolve, just like a domain name, but nowadays they resolve immediately. So, I don't think that's the problem...

So now I have 4 of the 5 working ... and that is without doing anything.

Both examples work for me with or without the www. It might have soemthing to do with DNS propagation, although, as Vin said, that isn't usually a problem with subdomains these days. From a technical perspective though www.x.y.com would be handled differently than x.y.com would be in the DNS server, so it does kind of seem that it might be a DNS thing.

I can provide a technical explanation if you want, but if you aren't a technically kinded person you probably won't care, so I'll just say give it a day or two and see if everything starts working correctly then.

Neither of the first two work for me (with or without www), but the herbalife one works fine

Thank you... I will do as you say and give it some time.

The technical explanation would be great.
If it does go whooshing over the top of my head it may just help someone else who has the same issues.
