This is a question to people who have experience using chat programs.

A friend of mine who is building a personal site wants to integrate a chat program there and he asks me to recommend one. I have to admit, I have very little experience dealing with personal sites in general and chat programs in particular, so if you could share with me your personal experience, I would appreciate it very much.

If it's a commercial software, that's OK. If the installation is not easy, that's OK too, I can help with that, just need a help picking the right script.
