Spam Assassin: Whitelist Messages Containing 'X' in Subject

Is it possible to configure Spam Assassin to whitelist messages that have a specific string in the subject? One of the lists I am (FreeCycle) on uses Yahoo! Groups to distribute messages. As the group is for people specifically asking for items, or giving away items, there are a lot of occurences of the word 'Free', plus the ususal Yahoo ads. So, Spam Assassin tends to trash many of the messages.

Any thoughts on how I could set up a white list based on the subject line would be appreciated!

There isn't a whitelist feature based on anything but addresses, afaik. You could try training it (need to use the command line via ssh; read "man spamassassin" for info).

On the client side, you could filter based on the subject line and/or the header tags (X-From-List is one, I think). That still leaves the message tagged and the original message in an attachment, though.

Yeah, I use Thunderbird on my e-mail client to weed out spam that makes it through my pretty tight server spam filters. But the problem lies in the false positives on the server side. All too often these messages never make it through to Thunderbird, so I can't train it. But, I will look into training SA via the command line. Thanks for the idea!

baldtechnologist: I just installed Thunderbird, and I can't seem to get my e-mail accounts set up. I've done what the Manual says -- set up the account as mydomain@mydomain.com, set the POP server to mail.mydomain.com (as well as the STMP server, which is also using SSL on port 465), blah blah blah. But when I try to check my mail, it says the password doesn't match or whatever. I've tried a few things. I created another e-mail account, "info@mydomain.com," but that doesn't work, either...I'm running out of ideas! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    Regards,
    Blake

Is it the password doesn't match, or is it saying that the name of the certificate doesn't match?

If it's the latter, you need to use Jaguars name of the server instead of your domain name... usually something like "secureNN.nocdirect.com"

    Goodluck!
