    Knoxferatu

My site, Knoxferatu , is a community for the Gothic scene in Knoxville, TN (yes, we have one, and, thanks to my work a couple of years ago to get it going again, it's quite large). I started as the webmistress/promoter for another site, but got fed up with the folks who claimed to run the show, so I bowed out. Now, my husband and I have a new site, Knoxferatu.

The Knoxferatu.net site is just for our forum and mail. Our main site, Knoxferatu.com is hosted at GoDaddy. I'm not pleased with their service. As soon as our new dance night's first evening is over, when we can afford a little downtime, I will be switching hosting over to here. I'm very happy with Jaguar, so far. I was directed here by Nareau, who owns Asheville, NC's goth site, The 5th Circle.

Our main site (.com) is still not finished, as most of the content is not up. But, let me know what you think of our forum. I worked on it for about three days, inbetween taking care of my two kids, Lily, 5, and Lonas, 5 months.

    Thanks!

    Hi!

First off, I like the theme you've made for phpBB. The only thing that doesn't really do it for me is the fact that the message icons are very similar... however, that's pretty minor.

The splash page, on the other hand, looks very good, but seems a bit large to not be 'fluid'. Lots of users are still running smaller than 1024x768. Perhaps that's not a concern for you, so I just point it out as a point of information.

Overall, it's not terribly exciting, but looks good and clean, and appropriate to the content. Nicely done!

I'm not into the goth sceen, but I like the site. Making sites look good with black backgrouds can be difficult, but you've used color (or lack thereof) quite well.

I'm running at 1024x768 on the computer I'm on at the moment with my browser sized to fill a bit more than half of the screen and the splash image loks fine. Personally I'm not a fan of splash pages, but the one you have works for the site.

    Thank you for the input.

The splash page will go away soon. I just wanted it to announce the new forum. I know splash pages are annoying. They annoy me. But, I can't help myself. They're so dramatic.

As for the buttons, we will be changing that. I'm assuming you're refering to the spiders. As soon as our inaugural dance night is over (it's tonight), and I have time, I will be reworking them.

Thanks, again, and keep the comments/criticism coming. I'm new to forum customization, so any help is quite welcome.

Don't get me wrong - the splash page will be a good thing if you plan to use a portal or other front page later on, as sort of a placeholder. Alternatively, if you offer different versions of the site (language, Flash, etc), it's not a bad way to go...

My only concern was the size. While I don't like splash pages in general, it's not a killer

I have reworked both the new post indicators for each forum and for each topic. Let me know what you think. Thank you!
