    Argon down for emergency maintenance!

Argon is down for emergency repair. We will update everyone shortly when the problem is fixed.
Any news on how much longer argon will be? With the scheduled maintenance, the fscheck and now the repair, some of my visitors are wondering where the site's gone.

I have an account on Iron and one one Argon. Iron seems to have been blessed with a tenacity that Argon somehow lacks...

    Thanks for any updates.

Our clients are wanting some kind of update too. The network status shows that it is only email that's down, but we cannot get access to sites on Argon.

    Unhappy

Has it been over 5 hours now? The original repair message was posted at 2.50pm CST time, and now it is past 8.00pm.

How serious is the repair? Will we get our sites back, or is there a plastic puddle of argon comptuer parts covered with extinguisher foam out there somewhere?!

I sure hope it comes back soon, and that there is no data loss, because I don't have the most up to date backup. Wish they would tell us the nature of the problem.

    Seems very quiet from JPC.

Is someone still working on this problem?

Do they know Argon is still down? I wonder if a support ticket is needed?

This repair is something they need to tell us more about.

i got a reply back a while ago saying they were working on it and would reply as soon as there was news ... nothing about timeline or anything or the extent of the problem ... the server does seem to be back up http://argon.nocdirect.com/ - will be a wait for each account i think - post here if you see your account back operational.

Sorry for the lack of announcement updates. I have updated the announcements forum as to where we're at with this.

Am I correct to assume there was a hard drive failure of some sort, and that the data is being copied to a replacement drive? If so, I'm not suprised this happened. This is one of the oldest Jag servers that's still around.

The drive in Argon is going bad and I should have made that more clear in the announcements section. The data is being copied over to a new drive right now. With the performance of the old drive not being so good, the transfer of data is taking quite a while and there is quite a bit of data to be moved overall.

We're up to letter "F" on the home directory. I'm not going to lie, it's been a slow transfer and I expect 5-8 more hours before we're fully restored because of the slowness in data transfer.

thanks for the updates Eric ... makes a big difference to give clients some expectation of time and the extent of the problem.

Yes, it is better to know than to be in the dark.

    Thanks for telling it straight.

Hopefully the drive holds out until the transfer is complete.

We're up to "O" for user data. I would have expected to be a little further along by now, but we are moving at least. We're going to try and start some services for the sites that are restored. They may not be fully restored, but we'll work on getting more services going as we proceed with the data transfers. The only problem with this is that it may slow down the data transfer even more. If it does make a substantial difference, we'll have to stop the services to quicken the data transfer.
