    OSCommerce doesn't work

I've ran across a problem that seems to be un-fixable and I thought I would ask here before giving up entirely.

I have not transferred my nameservers since I want to make sure that everything works properly first. I created an OSCommerce shop and everything seems to work so far in the catalog section. However, in the admin section, very little works. When I try to install a module, for example, it fails and displays an incorrect path. Support isn't real clear on the problem (or maybe it is my understanding of them at fault) but the only solution they have is to download and install the OSCommerce package, which I have done.

It seems the software on the server can't handle the paths correctly unless an actual URL exists. Has anyone ran across this before? Anyone have any idea on how to fix it?

That very well may be the case, at least for some of the software installed via CPanel. The installers are designed to be run from a fully-functional site and probably haven't been tested for non-normal operation, such as when your domain name isn't being used, etc. Personally, I wouldn't use any of the CP installed suff in a production environment. Its ok to install to get a feel for the software and to see if you want to use it, but when you decided to go live with it I would go and download the real package and install it by hand. That way you can be sure you have the latest version with any and all security updates applied. The CPanel scripts often to be a version or two behind.

Thanks for the replies. The problem has been resolved. Turns out that the path added in one of the configure files needs to be absolute. CPanel apparently adds a relative one. I appreciate the advice on CPanel. This is my first experience with it and I wasn't aware there might be problems with it. I do as suggested and not use it.
