Thumbs up Customizable Google Free WebSearch and SiteSearch

I don't know how many of you know about this free service, but it rocks!!!

    http://www.google.com/services/free.html

The search feature on most web sites, including PHP-Nuke sites, is kinda sucky! Most of them don't work worth a dang. They all require different syntax to make them work right, blah, blah, blah...

I knew Google WebSearch/SiteSearch was around, but I never investigated it until yesterday. All I can say is I'm impressed.

Check it out on my site. It allows ppl to search your site, or the web, in a matching color scheme, with your own logo. If you didn't look at the addy window, you would swear you were still on my site.

One really nice feature is you can integrate it not only with your site, but also with Google Adsense. So, when someone does a search, if they click on the ads, in the results, you get revenue from it, just like Goggle Adsense banners on your site, which most ppl avoid like the plague.

Anyway, check it out. It's toward the bottom-right on my home page. I like this so much, I'm thinking about making a center block for it...

Fine by me! Leave the ID in place and I'll get the Adsense revenue...

You know, ppl are funny! It continually surprises and amazes me what they like...

I made a DMOZ interface for my site, about a month or so ago. Nobody uses DMOZ - except on my site. That damn thing is the #1 draw now - sometimes 3:1. Go figure!

I think they'll use the GoogleMeister too...

Lots of people use Dmoz, although not necessarilly on dmoz.org. Dmoz was built to be open, allowing other sites to create their own directories from Dmoz data. Netscape (since they created it), AOL, Google, and many others (including you) make use of this data through their own sites. I'm sure that many non-technical web users would ahve no idea what dmoz was if you asked them, but I'm sure many of them have used it, especially if they are using their ISP's or Netscapes default home page to do their searching.

    Thank you!

That 'module' has been a ton of work, but it's been a labor of love. I ran a 'Yahoo-style' search engine for years. I took it down when I moved here, over a year ago, and I'm still getting submissions.

Anyway, I was looking for something to replace it, and DMOZ was it! No maintenance...
