the problem is that my index.php is in a subfolder of public_html, and it needs to be in this folder for it to work. How can I solve this?

Go into cpanel and set a redirect to the folder in question.

Thank you I did that, and hope it works. How long does it usually take for the site to propogate or work. When can I type in the domain name that i picked out and not the ip and username deal.

Usually up to 72 hours before the changes has had a chance to get around the net

It usually takes around 24 hours for a domain to propegate around the net, but can take up to 78 hours.

Generally speaking, if it is a brand new domain registration, it will take about a day to start working. If you're moving a site from a different host it can take up to three (or sometimes more). This is because DNS servers all over the net cache the results of lookups. So when you make a change to your DNS servers you have to wait for the change to happen in the registry (~24 hours) and then for all of the various caches to expire (~48 additional hours, depending on old DNS settings and the popularity of your site). If you are starting fresh with a previously unregistered domain you only have to wait for the first part.
