    SMTP authentication working?

    Hello,

I don't seem to be able to authenticate with the SMTP server and before I raise a ticket I just want to confirm I am not doing anything wrong.

I have created a mail account (michael.j) and connecting to the POP server works perfectly. But when the same username and password is used with the SMTP server I get an error (535 Incorrect authentication data), this is with both a '+' or an '@' in the username.

Isn't this supposed to be all I need to do?

The main domain login and password does successfully authenticate, but obviously this is not ideal for giving out to mail users who will also gain full control panel access!

    Thanks,

    Michael

Outlook Express, Apple Mail, and connecting manually through telnet. All with identical results, and we can connect to other mail servers on port 25.

    Hi.

I suggest you to open a support ticket. They will be able to fix the problem or at least tell you what's wrong with your configuration.

I'm guessing that I'm not doing anything wrong then as no one else commented.

Thanks for the replies. I've now raised a ticket.

It sounds like you've done exactly what I do.

    My Outlook settings:

    E-mail Address: me@mydomain
    Incoming mail server (IMAP): mail.interbrite.com
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.interbrite.com

    Login Information:
    Username: me@mydomain
    Password: **********

Then, under More Settings... > Outgoing Server, I have "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" checked, along with "Use same settings as my incoming mail server."
