    Cp Ssllloooowwwww

I have multiple accounts and the CP for all of them is coming up ultra slow - as in minutes to display. When it does come up, the images are missing and clicks on links on the panel result in yet another 3-5 minutes to display the next page. Is anyone else seeing this? Yesterday it wasn't this bad on one domain, but was on another. Not they are all slow.

OK. Now stranger... If I use Internet Exploder, CP works just fine. If I use Mozilla or Firefox, it is painfully slow.

I was just in the CP on silicon with Firefox and it was working as usual. I have, however, noticed that Firefox can be slow to render really long pages sometimes. I am working on an online evaluation system that presents the user with 100 questions, grouped into several categories. I noticed it taking up two two minutes to render in Firefox and started looking for problems in my code. Then I thought to check it in IE, and it loads in no time. I haven't pinpointed what could be causeing the Firefox problem, but I'd suspect your issue is something similar.

Might I suggest a proxy filter that runs a realtime-viewing log window? Try the amazingly useful at Proxomitron or proxomitron.info/.

It's an adblocker/webbug/etc. filter that you can tweak to your hearts delight to remove the junk you don't want to view in your browser. Just set it up as a local proxy filter for all of your browser applications and run with the logging window open. From it you'll be able to view all of your GET and POST request headers and the associated responses... great for troubleshooting problem requests and delay points. There are other web filtering proxies but this one is both simple and complex to use to suit your particular needs. Just a suggestion and might just help you when you need to submit a trouble ticket.

You probably know about this, but maybe not...

I've used 'FireFox' since the beginning, and it's always had a bug in it, where you need to close it, every once in a while, or it goes slower than snot. This is unpredictable and elusive. Sometimes you can leave it open for hours, and not have a problem, but sooner or later, given enough time, it WILL crap out on you. Totally closing all instances of FX and restarting it takes care of this problem, until next time...

He did, or something. There is some remnant support structure and the now static application available.

Thanks for all your comments / suggestions. The problem is definitely on my end, but I don't know where. I tried on another PC with the same version of Firefox and had no problems at all. I've rebooted both my problem PC and my firewall to no avail. I'll try the proxy idea, and if all else fails, I guess I could plug in my network sniffer. It's wonderful for debugging, but doesn't fit in my new office config too well. :-(

So here's another data point... the machine that works fine is running ZoneAlarm Pro 5.1. The machine that has problems is running ZoneAlarm Pro 5.5. I just remembered that I upgraded over the weekend. I've never had problems before now in using CP through Firefox. Don't know exactly why ZAP 5.5 would impact one browser but not the other.

Go look at the 'events' and see if ZoneAlarm is blocking something or another...

I've had that happen before. When you upgrade, all your 'trusted' stuff, et cetera, is supposed to stay the same. However, a fresh install wipes the slate clean.

And, like you said, you can always run a sniffer on it...

I've always had problems with ZoneAlarm. The only time I've been successful with it is when I was using the rebranded version of it that comes in the security suite that RoadRunner gives away. Unfortunately the anti-spyware tools that come with that suite kept reporting that my VPN software was spyware and the solution in the help file said soemthing along the lines of "the only way to get rid of this warning is to remove the affected software." I need access to my employer's VPN, so the suite stayed installed for about 2 hours.

I've been using ZoneAlarm since version 2.6. I've had small problems off and on but always been able to resolve them. I even got it to work reliably with a CheckPoint VPN (before the days when CheckPoint bought them out)! I do know other people who have had problems though. Maybe the difference is that I used to be a network security geek and was at one time CheckPoint certified. None the less, either there is a bug in ZAP, there is some other yet to be determined software problem, or my brain has atrophied . After all, I am a rather old geezer, at least compared to you spry chickens. I think my neck is creaking.
