    Question Transfering a domain?

OK, this may be a stupid question and I've looked all over this site to see if there's an easy way to transfer my domain from another service and I can't seem to find one. I currently have my domain registered with another company, but I have another site with Jaguar. I intend on hosting both on here (under one account), but I assume I need to transfer that domain. How do I go about doing that, and will having to multi host both domains cause any troubles with the transfer?

    Hello,

If you create a free aletianic.com account you can transfer domains into that account and manage the domains from that account. Be sure to confirm the transfer away from your current registrar (usually through e-mail). We charge $9.95 for the transfer which also adds another year onto the end of your current registration.

Multi-hosting the domains on your jaguarpc account will have no impact on the transfer of the doamins into your aletianic account. Just ensure you update the DNS settings so that your site visitors are directed towards our network. Below are name servers that you can use:

You do not need to transfer the domain registration if you don't want to. You domain can be registered anywhere (although if you are paying more than $10/year now, moving might not be a bad idea).

I you decide not to switch registrars, all you need to do is change the DNS server names with your current registrar with the ones that JPC gives you (probably ns.jaguarpc.net and ns2.jaguarpac.net or something similar). Most registrars do this with some sort of web interface these days. Then after about 24-72 hours your site will start to resolve to the JPC servers.

    Thanks Jason,
I should have thought of that. But here's another question will just changing the DNS server name still allow me to upload my webpage content to the subdomain I've created under my current site hosted by jaguar. IE, can I edit my other site (the one not registered with jaguar) and upload it's contents to the subdomain I've created in my jaguar account? and will the web address appear as it was registered (ie, www.registeredsite.com)? Or will it appear as a www.jaguarsite.com/registeredsite?
Sorry if these seem like obvious questions, but I'm a photographer and by no means an IT kind of guy.

Once you change the DNS servers and the changes propagate then your JPC-multihosted site will show its name in the browser's location bar (in other words, user's won't know that the site is multihosted, it will work exactly as it does now). Until the name propagates, you won't be able to access the site by name, but you will be able to access it with basesite.com/multihosted or multihosted.basesite.com. As for uploading content, the multihosted site is just a subdirectory of your main site's public_html. You'll access it using the same username and password that you use to access the main site now.

Here's what I'd reccommend you to do move the site:
    1. Create a subdomain for the site you want to move.
    2. Contact support and ask them to point that site's domain at your new subdirectory. They'll set up the Apache handlers and add the domain to the JPC DNS servers.
    3. Start moving your content and test it using the subdomain address.
    4. Once you are sure everything is working, go to your registrar and change the DNS servers on the domain's record to the JPC ones.
    5. After a few days, once you are sure all requests are going to the JPC server and not your old host, cancel you service with the other host.

    Hope this helps.
