Question about making a members area..

    Greetings all
First off, thanks for all the posts.. Very informative, and at times, entertaining..

I have a client who is the head of a local car club here in the city. He would like to have an area set up for every member of the club to add pics, and text about their rides, etc, and I'm trying to figure out how to do this..

I could set up ftp accounts for each member, and that would give them a partitioned off area for each one, but these people know nothing about html, etc...

Does anyone know of a decent script or program out there I could run on the site that each member can log into, with a standard template, etc, and upload what they want people to see, and that script/program formats the txt and places the pics on the user's page in a certain way? The users don't have access to the CP, thank goodness

Thanks for any ideas you might have,
    Mike Rosati

If I understand what you are trying to do, i.e. have a place for members to display pics, then I would use Coppermine Photo Gallery. As a matter of fact, that IS what I use on my site. Although I DO NOT allow members to have their own galleries, the option is there. What I do is allow anyone, members and guests, to add pictures to a single generic gallery, but with my final approval only - but that's just me.

    LoL! Hope that makes sense...

Basically, CPG is a standalone program that allows you, and others, to display photos on your web site. It is very flexible as far as who can upload pics and who can view them, if users can have their own public and/or private galleries, whether or not the pics require your approval, the allowable size for these pics, if ppl can send them as eCards, yada, yada, yada.

If this sounds like what you are looking for: http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/

There are MANY other proggies that do the same thing, but I like CPG the best. Another favorite is Menalto Gallery: http://gallery.menalto.com/. Some webmasters prefer Gallery to CPG...

If you'll pardon the pun - if neither of these float your boat, take your pic: http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Script...ies/index.html

I guess I should have provided a link to my gallery too...

    Good plug though...

Thanks for the advice.. I'm going to play with CPG.. That will come in handy with vB integration..

    To explain a little more:
I'll give you an example of what I'm trying to do.. Lets say I've got a template on a website.. The template is empty, the only items on it are flagged areas that house photos, and a flagged area or two for text...

When a user logs in, they are brought to a menu that asks them to upload photos, and txt to put inside of the template....

Their version of the template (with photos, txt, whatever) is then saved to their home dir /website/users/bill for example.. so then all can go there..

I'd like to give these users an "online" webpage creator for their member areas..

Yes, I think I just made that clear as mud
    Mike
