Question What can I delete in my logs

I'm trying to do some house-cleaning on my account. Specifically, I want to slim down some of my log files (which seem to be the largest blocks of disk usage). At the same time, when I get above my public_html directory, I get the heebee-jeebees about deleting stuff.

What is it okay to delete, and what should I not mess around with?

    Thanks...

Well, it all depends on what you have installed in your account and what you want to clean up:

tmp has "temporary" files for the various CPanel stats packages that you can clear out. If you do, you'll loose hiostorical data in your stats, but you shouldn't cause any harm. Other scripts that you run on your site may also write files to tmp and may or may not clean them up properly. BE casreful when deleting these as some current users could potentially loose session data or whatnot.

Mail contains all of the email that your site receives (that you don't delete). If you use IMAP, webmail exclusively, or you don't download and delete your POP mail then your mail files could be a little bloated. It never hurts to clean out old email (says the guy who's been getting "over your limit" messages at work for the past two weeks!).

There may be other things you can clear out, too, but it all depends of what you need and what you're running. Before you delete anything that you aren't sure about, be shure to download it to your local computer "just in case." If deleting it kills your site you'll be able to restore it easily.

If you only use e-mail forwarders, can you safely delete mail and etc?
