    Is it possible...(Google and IP)

Is it possible to be downgraded by google and have less robots indexing your pages if you don't have a dedicated IP address? I'm a but of a newbie when it comes to SEO and I'm not sure if this is a factor.

The reason I ask is because before I transferred our site to JagPC we we very well indexed by google, had over 60,000 links there, and a pagerank of 7. Almost immmediately after transferring, google has indexed us less, we have many less pages indexed (about 28000), and our pagerank is now 6 (and probably dropping).

The ONLY thing that has changed is the IP of the site, and the fact that it's not a dedicated IP anymore.

Does anyone know if this could be a factor? If not, anyone have ANY ideas as to why this could've happened?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Or might it have tried to do some indexing during the transfer window? If it couldn't find pages, that might explain it - and should recover itself at the next crawl.

IP address has no affect at all. When you make a change the proper way to do it with the least impact is to leave the old domain up for about 30 days. If you deleted the old site immediately that could cause some problems depending on how long it takes the the DNS to fully propagate.

The Only time a dedicated IP is needed for anything is when you have your own SSL certificate.

By the way Google just did a PR update and a lot of sites drooped. You do have some serious problems though. They may be temporary or they may be permanent. It will take a few more days know for sure.

Actually I did leave the old site up for a number of weeks after the transfer. I don't think it has anything to do with the actual transfer since it's been a slow, gradual drop. It went from 60000 to 50000 to 40000 and so on. Though it's been stable at 28,000 for a couple of weeks now. Also, google is spidering the site everyday and posting the results within 2 days. I really don't know what happened - I didn't think IP had any part in this, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks for your responses, I will update this if there is a change. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears.

Google blows lately! Those jackballs downgraded my site bigtime 'cause my 'referals' showed MSN bots were pounding my site.

I'm short on time. Just take my word for it (and Connie's). It doesn't have anything to do with JagPC, or your IP. That was just a coincidence. Google started sucking ass in late February and haven't quit...
