    Please review my site

Would appreciate what others my think of the site I designed.

    www.qsaincorporated.com

May not be the greatest site ever built, but am proud of the fact that it was designed only using Notepad and Paint Shop Pro.

It is pretty basic now with a few bells and whistles, but is a good start to build on.

Nice, clean, clear, concise. Good color coordination and use of whitespace. Very well done.
    • "contact us" link in footer linked to wrong page.
    • May want to consider XHTML over deprecated HTML since you are just starting. This is the trend toward XML that is probably inevitable.

Woops, I originally had a "mailto:" link to for people to contact us, but decided not to due to avoiding spam issues. There is only one email address visible throughout the site and it is actually a gif image. I left the "href=" portion of the link empty to be filled in later and forgot all about it, Thank You!!

As far as XHTML, I should have used it and for some reason just didn't. Will adopt it now before the site gets any bigger.

Really appreciate your comments and thanks for pointing out the "contact us" problem.

I agree with Spath, nice looking site. How old is it. You have a TB PR of 4. That usually takes a while to achieve.

The site is a year and a half old, but I redesigned it because we were getting a decent amount of hits and did generate business from it, but I thought if the site looked better those hits would generate even more business. The redesign took about three weeks in my spare time.

It's a work in progress. I would like the site to grow, but don't get a whole lot of support with it at work. To tell you the truth, I mainly do it because I enjoy it.

By the way, what is "TB PR of 4"? And is it a good thing? lol!!!!

    Thanks for ur comments.

    I'm showing a PR of 4/10 also...

Anyway, nice site for home-grown, raw HTML!

PR is page rank. It is one of about 100 factors Google uses in determining how your site ranks for various key words. PR can be any where from 0 to 10 so a 4 is not bad. PR is determined based on how many other sites are linking to your site. TB refers to the Google Tool Bar. TBPR does not show the actual PR it is an estimate. Your actual PR could be PR 4.9. Only Google knows actual PR. PR is not something to become obsessed about.

I think the PR of 4 is due to the one section "Rosemount". The products have pretty long part numbers, so I added to the site a means to build a model number. That feature tends to get most of the hits. Actually, Rosemount themselves have "just" introduced relative recently a "Build a Model Number" feature, which coincedentally enough looks awefully similar to mine. I also noticed that my site was visited by WGET, hmmmm...............!!

Sadie, PR is initially based on the number of back links (links from other sites to your sites). You home page will pass some internal PR from the home page to internal pages depending on how you link structure is set up. PR has nothing to do with long part numbers.

You can do a search at Google for link:www.domain.com and see how many back links Google is reporting. This will not be all the backlinks they know about. Google no longer reports the total number of back links to a site. Use the same search at MSN. At Yahoo you need to use linkdomain:www.domain.com

My previous explanation though simple is how PR works with Google. As far as I know MSN and Yahoo do not use PR. Google has a patient on that and is what made their stock so valuable when they went public. I do think MSN and Yahoo consider incoming links to a site though. They are just not as important as with Google. Since February Google is devaluing incoming links. Google created a monster in regard to PR that allowed for a lot of spamming the SERPS in regard to incoming links.

To expand a little nearly ever web page has some PR value. (notice I said nearly). So lets say the TB shows a PR 0 on the TB. The actual PR might be PR .00195 (as an example) Every page that that particular page links to will receive a portion of that PR. It won't hurt the page that the link is on but if there is only one outbound link on the page then the page being linked to will receive a bigger share than if there are 5 outbound links on the page so BLs (links from other sites) and internal linking structure is important.

This thread is getting way of topic. Hopefully a moderator will split the thread and start a new thread Titled Search Engine Optimization or Page Rank.

I think this is a very important topic that affects a big part of Jags user base.

Save your log sadie31 and check the code on Rosemount's site. If it looks alot like yours and the WGET was from "them"...send them a bill (a big bill lol) or tell them to remove the content.

You can be certain their webmaster is being paid...getting paid your money that is.
