I do a lot of work in Director, but I usually just make executable Projectors that go onto CD-ROMS. I don't do much with Shockwave.

Flash and Shockwave are two different technologies, and while their uses are similar they are not cross-compatible. That is, to my knowledge you cannot simply make a Shockwave dcr into a Flash swf. I think it might be possible to load a dcr into Flash and play it from there, so you could essentially make a Flash wrapper for Shockwave, but I don't know how well this will work performance-wise. The best way to get a Flash movie is to create it in Flash (or another program that creates SWF files).

Just curious, but why are you even interested in flash? Flash does not benefit your visitors. In fact many like me wont even be able to see your pretty flash file or page. Worse SEs can't currently read flash so it hurts your chances of ranking with the SEs. For those of us on Dial up which Is still a large percentage of users the files take forever to download.

You have 10 to possibly 15 seconds to capture a visitor to stay on your site. After that they will probably hit the back button.

Flash is appropriate for some sites, but they are few and far between. It also requires building an html site for visitors like me that don't have flash installed and SE spiders. In this case you need to have browser detection set up to detect if flash is installed and then direct the browser or SE spider to the appropriate page.

It doesn't bother me if the visitors can't view it. It is only designed for people with Windows. And it only appeals to a small group. And that group of people would have that software installed.

I understand that. The site is appropiate for your user base. Are you concerned about ranking in the SEs so your visitors can find you?
