A little confusion

OK... i can finally acess my control panel to start setting up my website, however, I have gone and into the addon scripts from the control panel of my website and used their program to instal phpbb 2.0.15, However, because my website appears to not have propogated to their network yet, im still having to use http://69.73.146.203/~jkeepers to get to my website to view my web page. ***as you can see when you select this url, it changes the the url to http://neutron.nocdirect.com/~jkeepers/ *** I can not use the www.keepers-of-the-light.org as it just brings up a (this web site can not be displayed) page.

Here is problem, im able to view the main page of phpbb if i use this url to get to the main page http://neutron.nocdirect.com/~jkeepers/phpbb/login.php
however, when i try to login as what i have set up as the admin login, it again brings me to the (website can not be displayed) page. also when i scroll down to the bottom of phpbb page and go into the admin panel to edit/config phpbb, it also brings me to a (website can not be displayed) page. Is this due to jaguar not propogating my registration properly? I even had a friend come over who writes programs for a living and could not figure out, why my phpbb will not work properly.

Do i need to wait until i can view my website from www.keepers-of-the-light.org, before i can set anything up? If anyone understands what im talking about please help me if you can. I put in a ticket, but they redirected it to sales, so im waiting on what the sales department has to say to this problem. *i dont even know how sales will help with this*

First off, when I do a whois lookup on keepers-of-the-light.org, all I get is a "NOT FOUND," meaning that the domain wasn't registered. If you signed up for hosting with JPC and asked to register a domain name then at the end of your signup process you were given a link to AletiaNIC.com and instructions to go there to register the name. The registration isn't done automatically by the signup process and lots of people miss this link. Go to AletiaNIC now and register the domain name and be sure to specify on of JPC's nameserver pairs (see bottom of linked page)for your nameservers when you this. After that it should take 24-72 hours for your name to begin working.

As far as why PhpBB isn't working, I can't be of too much help as I don't use it. However, many of the forum regulars here (myself included) recommend that you download the latest release of phpBB from www.phpbb.org and install that instead of relying on the CPanel installer (this stands for any of the other auto-installing apps in CPanel as well). The CPanel version are not always up to date and software like phpBB that is very popular on the web is very often a target for exploitation. Installing the latest version from the publisher's site (and checking for and applying updates as they come out) helps ensure that you won't wake up one morning to find your site hacked. The CPanel installers can be useful for testing out a piece of software, but if you plan to keep it installed on your site for any length of time, do a fresh install of the most recent version. It is a bit more work, but it'll give you a good understanding of how your site works and if you ever run into trouble the community in these forums will always be willing to help.

The phpBB issue you experienced was indeed entirely due to the not-yet-working of your domain name. In the phpBB configuration there is a value somewhere that holds the URL the board is at. That apparently got set to the not-yet-working URL already, instead of to the workaround URL. Might be that the install script did that based on the data in de CPanel, might be that you did it yourself, not realising the annoying consequences yet. Now that your domain works it should be fine.

It sounds like the trailing slash issue". Add a trailing slash to http://69.73.146.203/~jkeepers to make it http://69.73.146.203/~jkeepers/ and the name won't be changed.

Try changing the "domain name" stored in phpBB's config table to "69.73.146.203/~jkeepers/" (or "69.73.146.203/~jkeepers/phpbb/", or whatever the proper subdirectory is, if any) and use that until your registration and DNS issues are squared away.

OR you could use the neutron.nocdirect.com/~jkeepers/phpbb/ but you need to be consistent everywhere.

Thank you everyone, it was indeed due to my domain was not registered. *bonks self in forhead* obviously i did not see the whole domain registration... feel quite silly now.. anyway, now i just need to figure out how to build the rest of my website with dreamweaver LOL.. thank you all so much

My script is still saying not found, but other .orgs are working fine. I guess I'll have to take a look at that sometime...
