    I stream music using RealProducer via RealAudio/HTTP on a shared server. Doesn't get any simpler than that...

    If I had a 'dedicated box', I'd install a Shoutcast server:

    It depends on the number of streams, software, etc but I wouldnt get anything less than Amd Athlon 64 2800 and 512mb ram, maybe even 1gig.

    would something like this be a canadate for the VPS? Is real streaming allowed on those plans?

    A vps could be a starting place but it by no means is going to push lots of streams without loading up as fast as a server like the one I suggested above can handle.

    It all depends on the quality of the streamed audio... But if you want to serve lots of users, think about lots of RAM...
