    Talking Staff christmas party

Think I must have caught support after the office christmas party For the first time in all my time with Aletia + Jag I actually had a bad support experience! This isn't Jag bashing - I love Jag and plan to keep my accounts with them for a long time yet.

After moving to the php5 server I noticed my multihosted domain was pointing at the wrong location. It was a non-standard path and couldn't be fixed through the cpanel, so I opened a ticket.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as I watched the support bod, who shall remain anonymous, tell me there was no problem with the path (there was but I had to prove it). He then proceed to fix the problem, then delete his work, then re-instate the wrong path and tell me it was fixed (it wasn't).

Trying to be helpful I told him to ignore any php errors he might see at the right path as I guessed these might explain his decision to keep messing even after the right path was configured. Three hours after I opened the ticket he finally gets there but still appears to misunderstand my comments on the php errors.

Merry Christmas to the Jag staff and customers

    Cool! Christmas stories!

I happened to run across this yesterday, while transferring a domain NAME to 1&1 -- the world's biggest web host.

Maybe this will cheer you up!

ARGH!!! I called the host (1&1) ... it is a problem on their end... they're bumping it up a level to be fixed... so I ask... all innocent and hopeful... do you have a possible eta on that fix??

24-48 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes.. that thud you heard was me fainting....

p.s. i never should have chosen 1&1 (my new mantra) ...

if it's going to take 24-48 hours to fix it, I could cancel 1&1, engage a new host and have the domain names propagated before 1&1 even gets to the problem...

There's the real lesson about large hosting companies... they just don't give a flying fig... and they don't have to...

But, there is probably no hosting company out there, that is making enough money to be considered a financial success, who isn't in the same, "I don't give a fig just pay me the money" boat... it's simple economics...

it was a problem on 1&1's end... what should have taken 24 hours, took 96 hours, and 1&1 did not check to see if it was a problem on their end when I first called at the 48 hour mark.. it wasn't til we we closer to 72 that I was able to make them check their end. The client is not happy... so, moving the site again with more downtime is out of the question... but definitely this is my first and last time to try 1&1.
Heh! I'd like to wish a very Merry Christmas to the Jag staff too!
