    copper no longer?

Checking my email earlier today, I got a message saying that the certificate was now for titanium. Sure enough, logging in via the shell also shows me on that server.

Is anyone left on copper? Has everyone been moved to titanium? I didn't see a notice anywhere, or a thread in the announcements area.

Copper was pretty good to me for these past years, here's hoping the same for titanium!

Checked cPanel and it is indeed Titanium.

If I remember right, Copper was one of the old servers from Aletia. I'm surprised it has help up for so long.

Nahh we'll be just as careful about not breaking it as we was with good old Copper. (with it being old and all) ;P

'They' just moved me too, Connie -- to Platinum. This server is at least 100% better than Neutron, from a technical standpoint, but it's evidently listed in SORBS. My wife said her mails are being blocked by her friend's mail server, since the switch.

I haven't had a chance to throughly check it out, as I worked 27 hours yesterday, and just 'got up', but here's the kinda crap you have to worry about!

    http://moensted.dk/spam/?addr=platinum.nocdirect.com

    And, stuff like this:

    http://www.communityband.org/phpinfo.php
    http://www.westendwebs.net/phpinfo.php

Plus, someone or something is spamming guestbooks from Platinum!

    Hopefully, Jag will see this...

OK, so it looks like some consolidation to servers that could handle more people, off of one (or more?) that were getting long in the tooth. Thanks to everyone who empirically confirmed.

Still, it's odd that there wasn't any notification, before or after. Normally, Jag is great about that!

Yeah! That's eye candy for hackers. The less they know, the better, IMHO...

I posted some time ago about all the extra money we were putting into new equipment, servers, switches, etc. I beleive that was back in may and while I posted no official schedule everyone should be expected to be on newer more powerful machines eventually. The technique we are using poses no risk and no downtime at all to any site so I made the decision to not put unneccessary fear or worry into people. I imagine most common users wont understand the nature of what we are doing and that its not like most hosting companies when they "move" users to other machines. What we do is far removed from that thinking and we are more like web surgeons.

copper, titanium, etc.. whats in a name?

Conversely the titanium users all moved too but just didnt know it. They are also on a new machine and not the one they have been used to for years.

If theres something Ive overlooked, some reason or something seriously wrong with not fortelling a client what their server hostname will be tomorrow I apologize in advance and welcome the input.

It would affect some things I use, like the shared certificate for both private stuff I look at, and for my secure connection over port 465 to the mail server.

Other than that, not much effect for me or my visitors.

We've just redone a lot of our systems so we can deliver more information to users. Not just a blanket statement but the ability to direct a notice to users of specific machines, or machine types, and lots more. We expect to roll this system (yes a nixcore hybrid) live in just days now.

Most users are not affected by any system changes we are doing. It will affect a small portion that do use a shared ssl cert, if and only if, we do not or can not move that cert over for some reason. We can certainly send some advance notice to those clients to update any ssl urls they may be using.

Thanks for the head up on this. I was just surprised to see no notice of this when I see so many other notices about migrations in the News & Updates forum.

Thanks, Greg. I agree totally. I was just surprised that there wasn't any notification (email to affected users, for example) after the fact. (Heck, it's an easy sell as a bonus, at least! ) I was never worried, it just gave me pause when my secure connections (IMAP and terminal) notified me that I was no longer on the same machine.

Out of curiosity, does that mean go for all titanium users (old and us new ones)? Or is it more like: copper users -> "old" titanium, "old" titanium users -> new machine (keeping a two-machine split)?

Not at all (see above). If anything, it's a compliment to the company for having set the bar so high with your prior communication!
