    Sigma

The sigma server has been having spotty uptime in the past day. It would work for only a few minutes a day. This has been an ongoing issue with the services going down every once in a while.

I know emergencies and upgrades happen, but being a new customer this has been ongoing for some time. Is it possible to mo

Is there any plans on Jaguar's site to improve reliability?

I meant to say from the previous thread:

Is it possible to move to another server? My friend has an account here on a different server and it seems to be more reliable (he has no complaints).

I have the same problems on Sigma. Up until about 6-8 months ago my site was on Lead, for 3 years with very minimal downtime.

If you open a ticket, you can discuss moving with support and/or sales.

Also having problems. Not a good sign. I would have expected to at least see something on news or something, unless I missed it. Been down quite a while, now.

Late on 12/30 PST, it was not responding to ftp or http requests, then it was back this morning. Today, the network/server status page showed it oscillating between http/mail being down to everything being down, back to everything being up. But, right now it shows everything being up, but no response to ssh. Earlier today, I had an ssh session up, just fine, but it was interrupted by a system shutdown message.

All to say, it's been verifiably having problems for the last 16 hours, from where I sit.

Jag, can you give us a confirmation about what's going on?

    thanks...

Sigma is still having some issues. We do not belive its a hardware issue and we are working to locate the user(s) and scipt(s) that are crippling the server.

    Ok thanks, Les.

I'm sure this is not news to anyone, but there are two main perils to these highly shared systems:

    1. The system not having enough resources to handle all the services for the multiplicity of websites.
    2. Any user, can easily write a bad script (memory leaks, or burns all the CPU, or pummels the disk sub system) and ruin system usability for everyone else. It's not even a question of incompetence, it's just bound to happen, even with a good programmer at the wheel.

I suppose there are some protections that Jaguar can put in place, perhaps there are some techniques that I'm ignorant of. But I've always viewed uptime on these systems as somewhat of a grace

But, then again, it always feels like it happens just when I want to do some site updates...

I agree with both of the statements above.

I have been very fortunate over the last 5 years to have had very little downtime. It just seems like since I was moved to Sigma the downtimes have increased. It just gets frustrating when you try to do something and its down, then the emails come rolling in from members of the site wondering what happened !

is anyone online on Sigma now?

ALL my public_html seems to have gone, subdomains are no more; Email and the MYSQL databases are still there.

I have asked to upgrade my account to the SDX so hopefully it is just that
