    Iridium slowdowns

Has anyone else on Iridium been suffering from pretty poor performance as of late? It seems that a few times a day the webserver will stop responding, as the load averages creep up and up until finally apache is restarted and everything's fine again.. for a few hours.

If it's not that, it's the MySQL server responding very slowly, or not at all. Now I know I'm only paying $10/m so I shouldn't expect 100% uptime or anything, but I've been with Jag for a while now, and Iridium's always been great, these past few months aside. Has something changed, or is it just me?

    Thanks.

I'm on Iridium and suffering exactly the same problem. Past week I opened a ticket. As always I got instant response and an apparent solution, however the problem persists. Writing the database is some times terribly slow.

Sounds like someone put a script or two out there that's slowly eating away the resources. Making persistent connections and not closing them for example. That's darn hard stuff for support to track down, but you have every reason and right to keep asking them to get and stay at it.

I suppose they first switch on a lot of extra logging of things and then rely on you guys to help them pinpoint exact problem moments so they can look up what was happening at that time..

I've got to admit, there are times that I think it may be my site slowing down the server for everyone - so I usually don't raise a ticket straight away, and just let the problem resolve itself.

However, I'm in the process of tidying up my site's code to be 100% sure that I'm not at fault. Then I'll be happy to push the issue!

It sounds reasonable but I prefer not to open tickets every time I detect an odd behaviour. However, Iridium suffers recurrent problems that never happened before. Since I did wait a month to open a ticket, I have no problem to wait another month to push a new one.

    Some stats:

    Nov 2005 239015 44046
    Dec 2005 210078 46476
    Jan 2006 222201 40591
    Feb 2006 38345 9390

I'm also investigating other possible causes of the big drop in february.

Phew - it's nice to know I'm not the only one who noticed a sudden drop in performance.
