    subdomain

If I set up a subdomain what do I need to do to so that I can hit it as such.

    http://subdomain.maindomain.com

I setup a subdomain but it does not come up when using the address format above.

However, if I use the following format it comes up.

    http://www.maindomain.com/subdomain

    Thanks in Advance,
    Mark

Sometimes it takes a while for the subdomain to get listed in the DNS servers. If you need the name to resolve right away, or if it still doesn't work in a day or so, open a support ticket and the techs will be able to update everything for you.

You are addressing the subdomain correctly: subdomain.maindomain.tld (ie subsite.mainsite.com).

Try accessing the domain using a proxy server such as http://www.megaproxy.com/freesurf

They may not have cached the DNS for your site.

Also, you could check the subdomain's DNS status realtime using
    http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup...N.TLD&type =A
    for the nameserver's response and
    http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/traver...N.TLD &type=A
for the root server's pointer to your nameserver.
(Of course you want to substitute the appropriate values in place)

HOW did you set it up?

The only way it will work, the way you want it to, is to have cPanel do the setup.

My experience has been, when you let cPanel do the setup (create the subdomain, et cetera), 'subdomain.example.com' will start working immediately.

If YOU create the subdomain manually, I don't think it will ever work...

I've had some that take a bit to propogate for some reason. At home they're usually instantly. At work, they usually take an hour or two. On my phone, they're usually instantly too.
