Suggestions E-commerce order notification

I've got a custom built e-commerce site that e-mails me when an order is received. Last night I received an order and no e-mail notification arrived. This is the 3rd time it's happened in a year. I also know that my server went down last night as well (I was trying to FTP something up and it repeatedly timed out at login).

Does anybody have any ideas on a type of scheme that may be a little more failsafe? For example, I was thinking of using some sort of script on a cron to repeatedly e-mail me a notification until I I inform it that I've received the order. Seems kind of sloppy though.

I don't get a lot of orders (maybe 15 a month), and my merchant processor doesn't post the transactions for at least 24 hours so I have to dig around to tell whether something has come in.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I let them text (sms) to my mobile phone. Also do that for critical events. Works as a charm.
