Dear ------ -------,
We are contacting you as your account is hosted
on chamaeleon.nocdirect.com
The server crashed under heavy load when a
spammer/abuser signed up on the server and
crashed it.
Currently the server is going through file system

Well atleast you know what happend, and they are fixing things, where i come from you where allowed to guess for 12 hours before they got the server back up, and even then they didnt know what hit them.
Not nice of course, but it's the risk of a shared environment sadly
Hope JPC has the posibility to charge this moron's credit card for the damage done.
Kind regards,
Patrick
The moron probably used a stolen credit card to sign up.

I hope it's up before tonight.
Me too. Has it been down all day? I know I had problems with control panel, mail and ftp this morning but they said it was a "spike" in the server load an I did get access shortly after opening the ticket. In hindsight, that probably was portending the current problems.Originally Posted by piper

It has been down for over an hour now. SPAMMERS!!! Grrrr.....![]()
And a double grrr to the idiots who buy things from their crap. Same to the dolts who buy from popup ads too.
I know it was down at 4:15pm EST (or earlier). So that's 3.5 hours ago.

Chamaeleon is my server too. SO MAD!!!!!!!
Spamming should be illegal.
So, Chamaeleon is me too! I just set up the account the other day and its the first time i've used a semi-dedicated set up. Plus its my biggest client!!
Question: What happens to e-mail that might be going through the domain and forwarded on? That's my biggest concern.
Is there anything Jaguar could do to help this sort of thing not happen or is it just the luck-of-the-draw? I have about 7 other cheap hostings with them and I've never known this to happen before.
best
Donna
OMG, it's still down.
Anyway, Donna_Jones:
Any email should get to you once the server is up again.
Are you really on a semi-dedicated plan? I'm only on shared and I would throw one big hissy fit if I was on semi-dedicated and this happened. They claim those servers are managed better than the shared. They might even monitor the server load and take action before you have to tell them it's down.
I was thinking about bumping "up" to semi-dedicted, but if it means being put on the same servers as a bunch of shared plans then there is no point in spending the extra money. They are pretty vague as to the tangible difference between shared and semi-dedicated. Most of it is fluff("we promise to look at it more closely than the shared plan") and there's no reason to think the semi's don't crash too.
I've been with Jag for a few years now and haven't experienced this until now. Several outages over the years, usually caused by a "stuck process", "rogue script", or "spike", but always fixed quickly.
Unfortunately, this server seems cursed. It was down for the count just a while ago and now here it goes again. I signed up a client recently who has now gone through this twice in a very short span on this server. I feel his pain as I opened a new resellers account and drew the short straw and got stuck here.
But, what can you do except air your frustration and hope for the best? It's not like Jag wanted this to happen and I believe they're doing what they can to get us all back online.

Yes, its semi-dedicated, around $30 a month. One of the things they advertise is "live chat", do you or anyone have an idea as to how I connect with that? I can't find it!
This account is no new I haven't even changed the dns yet ....
Donna
The live chat doesn't quite work yet, it's not really launched yet. At least, that's what I've heard.
It has been down for quite a while though.
