    Sigma problems

    G'day,

The two accounts I have hosted on the sigma server have both now been out of action for nearly four hours.

Still no reply from support. Still nothing in news and announcements. And the network status page still says everything is fine.

Surely this can't be chamaeleon all over again?

Surely JaguarPC have learnt something from the last week?

    Best Regards, Lloyd.

    Lloyd,

if the status shows that all services are up i would wonder if everything is down, from mail to http and ftp, did you try to connect on it's IP instead of domain name. (i.e. DNS resolving issue makes your server appear to be down while it isnt).

    Kindest regards,
    Patrick

    G'day,

In the end it took some 8 hours for the problems on Sigma to be fixed and these two accounts to come back online. I have no idea as to how many other accounts were effected. We only have two accounts on that server and both went off-line.

After some six hours we were told it was due to "DNS issues" and the problem would be fixed soon. And about another two hours later the sites came back live.

Nothing was ever posted in news and announcements. No response was made to this forum topic.

I guess the last week with chamaeleon has taught some people very little about providing feedback and keeping customers informed.

    Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.

Agree that this kind of notification could be better. 6 hours is long, but for DNS issues that is (lucky for you) short. My guess would be that named(dns software) was crashed as that one is not taken in the status from JPC. If then the checks all work on IP they will show up as green as grass.

    Kind regards,
    Patrick

    G'day Patrick,

I must remember to try that in future. Thanks for the tip.

Actually, I let my client deal with Jaguar, figuring they must be tired of me complaining by now.

My client just asked, "Is it normal to take so long. And why did they give no explanation."

All I could say was, "They're normally very reliable and fast to respond. But over the last two weeks I've been experiencing multiple problems over a number of accounts on a number of different servers."

    Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.
