    Server/Node Down... Again

    Well,

After finally fixing the problem with the katarn node, we have experienced several hours of downtime today.
But in a different way than normal.

Most outside users can not access our websites.
    But I can!
    Why would that be?

Could be the DOS attacks you say.
Well, that started at 2pm this afternoon.
And the last update (2 hours ago) said that all is accessable except for (some) locations accessing two of the nodes.
Still, most (as in 80%+) users can't access our websites. (timeout error)

Is there no backup plan to get servers online, perhaps in the Houston location? I thought that's what the daily/weekly backups were for. (could be mistaken)
Every minute of downtime is lost revenue. And 10 hours of downtime is a little extreeme, don't you think?

A DOS attack is out of JPC hands, its not an issue on a server, its a network issue from a datacenter. I am sure you can have backup locations, if you are willing to pay twice the fee you pay now, for a seccond server in another DC.

Please read more about what a DOS attack is, before complaining about it. A DOS attack is nothing more or less as a Terrorist attack on a datacenter, and frankly everyone doing so should be brought to court.

Please remember that we all are more and more depending on the internet, our users often do not patch their PC's and therefor getting ready for having all kind of trojans installed which can attack our servers any time they get the 'secret' message from their 'master'.

And no a downtime of 10 hours is not extreme, as you did not have a 10 hours downtime, your server has not been down, you could even access it. Even as i could access my server. Rember these 'terrorist cells' can exist out of thousands of PC's world wide and you don't just solve that in a matter of minutes, they will just find another route to the server and close those lines as well.

    Kind regards,
    Patrick

But even if I can access my server, what good is it if nobody else can?
Does that help my lost revenue?

Even though 10 hours of downtime does not seem like a lot. But it matters to my customers, who don't care if a Tornado hits the server, they want their site online. And it compounds on the hours of downtime I've already had this last month.

I understand from your words you get a lost of revenue when your server is not reachable,so you are serious about redundancy, and are willing to pay for an clustered environment around different datacenters ? Where the line speeds are fast enough to replicate every single change to your databases ?

But still expect that this will be delivered for less as $60 a month ?

Sorry i can really not take you seriously, such a sollutions are more around $60 a hour.

I honestly believe that JPC does try to make their network as redundant as possible, but dude you just got an terrorist attack on your server, i think you may be happy that the server is still standing and when the network issues have been repaired you have all your data accessable for everyone again.

    Regards,
    Patrick

I was getting it delieverd on each site for $7 a month before I came over to JPC.

BTW, you can get those options (that you speak of) with guaranteed 100% uptime for $180 per month.
Long way from your severely over-exadurated $60 per hour.

Yes, two geological locations, and 100% matching.
It does exist. Look around. Google is a nice start.

And I found a solution, and I am going with it. I have to, my customers demand it.

Dude, seriously, if you needed colocation, you should have thought of that before hosting with Jaguar. A Denial of Service attack can bring down even the best designed networks.

May was a very bad month, actually. I've never seen them have so many hardware failures in one month before.
