Question Too Much Downtime on 'Aries'

    Hi Folks.

I hope you don't mind me saying. But since I upgraded my account from 'Semi-Dedicated' to 'Partner Professional Bulk Reseller', I have experienced so much downtime, and some very odd server behaviour.

Just today, all my sites have been down 3 times, and some of my admin have said that it there was more downtime whilst I was in bed.

This is not setting a good example to my trying to resell some of my space, and having potential customers watching as the website continuously goes down.

There was almost no downtime when I was on Sphinx (except when all of my databases were restored from an earlier version, and I lost loads of data with no explanation), and now the staff just palm me off with "we've checked the server logs, and there's no sign of any downtime!".

Is there anything I can do to resolve this?.

    Cheers,

    Ian

    Hi Ron.

It sure is, and all eight domains.

It's been around one hour since I have been able to access any of my sites.

I'm just hoping that 'Support' do not come back and say that there's been no downtime logged.

    Hmmmm. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...dian/aries.jpg

    Cheers,

    Ian

I'm on a bulk reseller machine as well, and have had quite a number of problems with it for the last 2 months, give or take.

ROFLMAO. At least you've put a smie on my face. LOL

    EDIT.
Really. Are you happy with this?. Has it put anyone off buying space?.

Everything was fine when I was on Sphinx

Sorry. I wasn't laughing at you problems, but the fact that we both decided to take screenies at the same time.

Support have been in contact to say that there IS a minor hardware problem.

I don't actually resell - I am using the ability to create CPanel accounts to create accounts for my own sites, and for free sites for key people.

Actually, though, yeah come to think of it, one of my key people isn't setting up a site here for one of her clients because of the hassle, so yeah, it did cost me one hard sale.

But I've lost some amount of money from advertising revenues, enough so that I've repeatedly asked about other options, and they keep telling me VPS.

I DON'T WANT A VPS. I don't have any deisre to be my own SysAdmin and have to deal with the management of the OS and a myriad of system applications. Same goes for a dedicated machine. I just don't have time to spend hours a day recreating the wheel that they already have down to a pretty good science. I know about this stuff, not as well as a SysAdmin who does it all day long by any stretch, but in my last job I actually managed a crew of SysAdmins who were respnsible for 40+ servers.

Perhaps if they offered a VPS that was treated (from a management perspective) as a longhorn shared plan. I was hoping for a kind of SDX Bulk Reseller Plan, where there would be many fewer reseller accounts on each machine.

I believe I was their first customer on their first Bulk Reseller machine, and I rode through a lot of configuration issues with DNS and server apps and disk array failures and reloads and rebuilds and replacement... Now they are offering to move me to another server (I hope it's not Aries! lol). I just don't have the stomach for a lateral move like that right now.

Good luck getting your machine back up!

    Hi Ron.

Great post, my friend. Nice to meet someone who is honest about what he can, and cannot do.

Me. Well, I'm still learning all of this stuff. And, like you, I do not want to go down the VPS route unless I knew I would be efficient with it. Or at least, have good prior knowledge of all the software stuff.

I made quite a comical reply to another 'Aries' user just above (or below) this thread. I definitely believe that this server is a not a women, because it goes down far too much, and never promises anything else. Okay. Slightly naughty, but if you didn't have dirty minds yourselves it wouldn't be dirty.

The good things is the server is up now, but the 'pop' is still down.

    Cheers,

    Ian

It's down again. And whilst I've been in bed, all of the sites have reported odd behaviour on the forums. They couldn't access the ACP, images were missing etc....

This is NOT good enough, and in fact it's getting very tiresome.

I was hoping to have a good reliable service when I read all the good things about JaguarPC, but now I can see I was terribly mistaken.

Think now I have to move.

Just had this unintelligent answer from 'Support'.

The webserver was down and has been restarted.
Boy. That's very helpful isn't it?.

There are 412 sites on Aries!

You realize you're the only one complaining, right?

LoL! That's what 'they' told me recently...

That's very helpful too, isn't it?

I presume that response was from a member of staff?.

Would you know (seeing as the sales team are in bye-bye land) if going over to a VPS would be more reliable?.

Strange how I've moved from two other shared server hosts that cost me $12 per month, and were very reliable, to paying $39.10 per month, and I've had around 15% downtime.

Is the Aries is so unreliable, why isn't something done?.

No, Vin is the resident troll.

Although there may be 412 sites on Aries as Vin notes, there is no way for him to know how many JPC-created accounts there are. For all we know, you could be running 411 resold sites and be the only reseller on the machine. Of course trying to run that many sites from on reseller account would be stupid. Hmmm....maybe that's why the server's down (j/k).

LOL. Well. I think I've decided to go down the VPS route. As long as it's not on the Aries. LOL
