A 302 is not necessarily bad. A 302 means that the page has URL has moved but will be back.
A 301 means the URL has permanently moved to a new location.
I am very leary of using a 302 but I have used it occasionally. Typically with a 302 a SE for example will keep displaying the old URL in the results because it is only supposed to be a temporary move.
In the past in has been possible to hijack another site using a 302 redirect especially with Google. A little more is usually involved but the 302 was the basis of the hijack. After years of complaints by webmasters about the problem, Google finally acknowledged the problem and has made some progress in this area.

I got some 7 gigabyte of traffic/month from googlebot only on this site and now "only" about 500 meg/month, should this have anything to do with this redirect?
