    Photoshop question

    Howdy,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how make rounded corners on images using photoshop. I see it done all the time, but I have no idea how to do it (aside from grabbing the eraser and erasing the corners manually :P).

    Here's a simple example of what I mean: http://www.givecollege.com/images/st...udy_abroad.jpg

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

There is a way to do it without Photoshop. A PHP file generates the corners dynamically, any color and any size, and usually a bit better looking. I whipped up a quick little tutorial.

    1. New document

    2. Get out Rounded Rectangular Tool, adjust the settings at the top to suite.

    3. Draw it.

    4. Right click > make selection, 0 pixel feather.

    5. Now you have the selection you can go to your layer you want to have rounded, select inverse (Ctrl+Shift+I), and then hit delete, so you have a nice rounded image like the one you wanted.

Thanks, reply if you have any troubles

Thanks everyone, I'll give it a shot tonight.

That php script looks cool, if I can incorporate that in the cms tool I'm using that would be sweet!

    Thanks again,
    Mike

After playing around with the php code I see that it's perfect for creating rounded corners for text, but not for images.

It did lead me to find some other php scripts that actually round the image corners dynamically, but the examples I saw weren't the best (quality wise).

Still, it's good to know about these things, I'm sure it'll come in handy. Thanks.

I did use your tutorial for editing the images in photoshop (I did say 'thank you everyone')...and it was exactly what I was looking for...so thanks again.

It's just that I hadn't realized that it may be possible to do such things dynamically, so I found that stuff pretty cool. In the end, I'll be doing it manually for now as it seems like the best option until I find a good way of doing it dynamically.

Manually is nice if you're concerned about server resources, unless you meant automagically as in "the image will be used if it already exists and if not will then be created and stored for the next time."
(Manipulating images is kinda CPU intensive.)
