Network experiences - uptime, latency, dns

    Hey guys,

I'm sorry if this comes off as a rant, but I'm so frustrated right now it's just incredible.

I've been with Jag forever, an old Aletia customer before the acquisition. I was on Gold for a long time, but as the mail timeouts and downtime steadily increased I opted to have the account moved, that was a couple months ago.

We were moved to Posiedon, and it was good for a little while. Then the outages started happening, and now it seems like every day I've got notifications of outages in my email from our multiple service monitors, e-mail is a crapshoot, up and down as it pleases.

The last move was a pain, we were down for 6 or more hours, plus time to adjust the DNS on Jag's end.

I've submitted more tickets then I can count, and almost always get the canned response...

"Sorry for inconvenience. There was some load on the server which we have fixed now. The server is back to normal load now. Thanks for your patience."

Time and time again, I've got tickets for each of the issues open that I never need to close because I update them every day with a new outage. With the recent tickets, they've been saying we can move to another server (ie: another 6+ hours of downtime for the move, it'll work fine for a little while, and then it'll get overloaded again and I'll be back to the same problem as now).

I'm getting increasingly frustrated at the server uptime. As I write this our site has just come back up (seconds ago), I doubt it was related to the DDOS attack from earlier as it's always down in short bursts.

Your site could not have been effected by the DDOS, that was in Houston, poseidon is in Atlanta.

Atlanta has been having ALOT of network problems.....

I just realized that as well, regardless it was down (and just came back up). Short downtimes, usually between 10 minutes and 25 minutes, but at least once or twice a day. E-mail is less reliable then that, the server is really overloaded.

From what info I can gather your server has 50% less web sites assigned to it than the one I am on. Currently there are 81 Sites listed as active for your server and 161 on mine

Now one or more of those sites could be using excessive resources, and that something support should be fixing,

If you not getting the proper Maybe PM JAG or Eric with the Ticket numbers, all of them, and ask them to look in to way there is so much down time, Give them times and lenghts of the outages, give them as much info as possible.

How are you obtaining this data? How are you ensuring that it is current, too? Does the tool report dynamically?

Your not going to get an accurate count that way, not all machines have all the users on one main ip, in fact 99% dont. Lots of people have dedicated ips, especially older boxes or older clients.

Actually Greg's not alone, I can't recall a problem with the Atlanta network in a while. There has been problems in atlanta affecting a servers but nothing network wide.

Then it's all a matter of perceptions, Les and Greg. I had that impression before I moved to Atlanta, and I have that impression now. I never had the network problems that I've experienced in Atlanta when I was in Houston.

Maybe it's all just coincidence or something else, but it's been firmly planted in my mind from these forums before and since my move there.

Can you point out the atlanta network problems you are having so we can look into it? We are the ones running these networks daily and I assure you we dont see any network wide issues. We cant fix it if you dont report it.

There was a problem one day in Sept, Atlanta Network Maintenance

and one day in aug ,
Network Problems in the Atlanta Facility

right around when we made lots of changes. I dont see anything since and definitely nothing daily. Im not saying you arent having problems, just we dont know about them and we dont see any. Please let us know what your problems are.

    thanks
