    Panther down yet again

I've been a JPC customer on panther for several years now without a problem. For the last several days, however, my sites have been unreachable several times a day. Support says they are monitoring the server, but this is happening way to often for me to be confident that my sites will be up when people want to view them.

My sites don't have enough traffic to warrant upgrading to a semi-dedicated plan (on a busy month I *might* use 8 GB of bandwidth). Am I going to have to bite the bullet and pay for SDX of a VPS to get a reliable server?

It is probably a case of someone installing some new script that is being a resource hog. I'm sure that support will find it in due time--they are really good about controlling things like that here. It can just be a bit tricky to find the culprit sometimes.

Semi-dedicated wouldn't necessarily be any better, it is still a shared server. You say that panther has been stable "for several years." Since it is an older server it isn't getting new clients placed on it, so it probably isn't an issue of it becoming overloaded or having too many users, hence my above assumption. Despite having more resources on SDX, one script could bring down an SDX server just as easily as shared.

Personally, no one likes it when their sites are down, I know, but I don't really believe in moving to find a more stable server, either. Give support a day or two to figure out what's wrong and your server will probably be back to normal again.

You're probably right, but going so long with zero problems only to have so many pop up right away makes it that much more frustrating.

Hopefully it will all be fixed in a day or two and I can forget that this ever happened.

Upgrading to SDX won't ensure your site has better uptime. We are on a SDX plan on Sphinx and had 2 full days of downtime last weekend and we are now seeing daily outages.

There is no outstanding problem with Yodha or Stallion. If you are having problems, please open a support ticket with details and steps to reproduce the problem.

The problem with support tickets (in my case at least) is that by the time someone looks at the ticket, everything is working again.

Now if this were a case of the server going down for a minute every week or so, I would have no issue with it, but when it's several times an hour, there's a problem.

Fortunately, it's been 10 times better over the last several days, so we'll see if my good fortune continues.

I've been on Panther for years and I've hade my share of issues but recently it has been behaving nice most of the time (and it almost seems faster, but maybe that's just my imagination).

(I've been seeing som downtime in the past weeks, but it's been very weird because Panther has been up. If I've traced it with an external traceroute it has been online but I still couldn't reach it from home. But I could reach jaguarpc.com at the same time, so it's not like I totally disconnected from the 'net. So it was a problem on my end somewhere but I still haven't figured out what was wrong - maybe my router was action weird or something.)
