Slow server, slow speeds, high load...??

We've been DEHE customers since November of last year and the server has been steadily getting slower as time progresess, and now, since last week, when the server was down for over two hours, it seems to have gone completely mental.

We have been having loads of 30 every day since the past week, have needed to restart the ftp service at least twice a day because it dies (locks up?) after a few transfers and are rebooting the server on a daily basis just to keep it running.

I have taken this route (i.e. posting on the forum) since the support tickets get answered and the problems resolved, but not on a permanent basis, its growing tiresome to submit the same ticket almost daily.

The only heavy loads we place on the server are Mambo + SMF + Coppermine and Dokeos, yet this wasn't a problem on our earlier (less powerful) server.

How can we go about getting a solution to this situation?

peru3d: would you mind letting us know your VPS ID?

LaSet: as we have already said, your VPS is running out of resources. Please check my last reply in LQR-73148.

    Unhappy

Hmmm it seems all customer on the NL VPS seem to have the same issue. I am allready having this issue for the past weeks, but the past 4 days it did get far worse. I know the technical team is working on it, but so far they did not come with a sollution. besides: upgrade your VPS.

I am not planning to upgrade my VPS just yet, as it seems it is allready consuming 500MB after a reboot, so it does not make sense to upgrade something which is allready using the max of its memory, while i am not running anything more as where i bought the VPS for.

6 websites, Cpanel/WHM, Fanastico and RVskin. With 5 (very small) customers running Mambo with Gallery. And 3 of the 6 are just plain html websites.

Personally i think its something else, and i hope the tech-resp will find it out quickly as i get a lot of complains from my customers. That makes me very sad

    Kind regards,

    Patrick

    Patrick,

The issue you are experiencing doesn't have to do with what anyone else is experiencing. Your VPS is actually using up 800mb ram regularly and sometimes even hits the 1GB ram burstable ram limit. This problem does not relate to the load problem that Laset and peru3d described.

All the load problems on all servers have been solved, in both NL and USA.

    Andre,

Milovan is currently busy with a sollution, but as long as you guys don't know where this 800mb is coming from (and i certainly dont know!) it sounded like the same problem.

I can only hope my problem will be fixed any time soon, as it takes allready 4 days.

For reader wondering why i cmplain: i am not using any high loaded websites, i am just using the software DEHE did supply, cpanel, whm, fantastico. And not more as 6 sites are running on here, which did not even get above a 100mb transfer a day! DEHE is just as puzzled about the high memory usage as i am! They are however working with me for a sollution, and i really hope they will find one for me, as my customers are complaining more as i do here.

Actualy i am getting a bit sad of getting the ball back into my corner, you know very well i am not using that 800mb of ram, but somehow my VPS is using it, i feel i get the blame for this all the time, but i bought a managed service from you guys. Please manage my VPS so it does not use the 800mb of ram.

Sorry Andre, you playing this out like i am just a stupid customer and that DEHE does not make mistakes. Sure i can make mistakes, and i will be the first to admit it. But so far i am running a VPS which is not running as it supposed to for over 3 weeks now while we did not make any customization ourselves, we asked DEHE for advice all these times..

A bit of understanding would be highly appreciated.

Patrick you have to realize that your ram usage is your responsibility, not ours. We have been working on a solution for you so I suggest you wait until we have worked this out. Making accusations like that won't help you at all.

Your ram usage does not relate to your CPU load. If you are running a lot of services which are idle, it will still use RAM. If you can tell me your VPS ID I'll show you what applications are using the RAM.

I have to say I have similar problem since monday. My cpanel keep crasing, emails dont work, ect.... Cause out of ram, Hmmmm.... "Please upgarde your VPS".

Yesterday obut 4 o'clock in the morning I was looking at the service status and we had 55% of ram taken, 25% of swap , with 0.00% server load!!! Here I would like to add that my VPS resources are taken in 33%.

If your VPS is out of ram, cpanel is one of the first things that will crash. It seems a lot of you don't seem to understand that you are using up your own ram yourself, if you want more RAM than what's allocated to your account you will simply have to upgrade to a larger account.

If your VPS is currently using 33% RAM then that should be all good, but keep in mind that your RAM usage may increase throughout the day. If you don't want to upgrade that is no problem at all, but you will have to keep in mind that your ram usage is your own responsibility.

But.... With server load 0.00%, 55% of ram is taken?? There has to be something wrong with it, don't you think so?

If your VPS is currently using 33% RAM then that should be all good,
    - 33% that's the hard drive space taken, so what will hapend it I will have 80 % taken??
