    Perfomance difference between packages

I am interested in performance difference between Linux VPS packages (starter, business and enterprise). I guess you have already run some kind of benchmark tests. Also, it would be very useful to know the difference between these VPS packages and those that solidhost offers (dedicated servers).
If it matters, I am particularly interested in performance of web service (apache/php/mysql).
I hope an administrator can write us some kind of review.

Also, does anybody know how faster would be a server without control panel? VPS account would host just one Web site.

    Best regards,

    Hi Goran,

There is only a performance difference between the packages in case other VPS's are using a lot of CPU at the same time. The VPS's work with "cpu units", and these are basically just ratios. The starter plan comes with 1000 cpu units, the business plan with 1500 cpu units and the enterprise plan with 2000 cpu units.

For instance: if two starter plans are trying to use 100% CPU at the same time, each of them will get 50% of the total cpu capacity of the server, since it's a 1000:1000 ratio. Now if one starter plan and one enterprise plan are trying to use 100% CPU at the same time, the starter plan will get 33% and the enterprise plan will get 67% of the total resource availability, since it's a 1000:2000 ratio.

Now as you understand, if no other VPS's are trying to use CPU at the time when your VPS is trying to use CPU resources, your VPS will simply get to use 100% of the total resource availability of the entire node (which is a dual xeon 3.0ghz).

The performance of a VPS will be similar to the performance of a single P4 3.0ghz.

A server without control panel is not necessarily faster than a server with control panel, as it totally depends on which applications your website will use. The only slight advantage you will have without a control panel is that the VPS will use a little less RAM (since the control panel itself requires some RAM), but unless if you are logged in to the control panel it will not use any CPU. Furthermore we do not fully support VPS's without control panel and also it'll be a lot easier for you to control your website with a control panel - so unless if you are prepared to setup and configure everything yourself I would highly recommend to get a control panel.
