How to get Shared SSL to work?

I am attempting to use the Shared SSL until I get the site going, however it is not working.

If I use https://alatar.nocdirect.com/~myaccount/page it simply redirects to the unsecured http://www.mydomain.com/page

If I use https://www.mydomain.com/~myaccount/page the browser pops up a warning window saying that the website doesn't match the address on the certificate. If I continue anyway, the website still isn't secured because the address doesn't match.

Is there a trick to getting it to work or what?

Upon further review, I discovered that the above-quoted problem was a result of a mod_rewrite condition in my .htaccess

I have altered the rewrite and the Shared SSL is now working as expected.
