    FTP all screwy

Something's wrong with my FTP access. I was trying to upload this folder, and it is not being uploaded properly, so I'd try to delete it so I could try again. When I did that, there would be a couple of files which became corrupted and could not be deleted. So I tried renaming the folder, and so on. I tried that a few times, and now it's telling me I can't connect because I've had too many connections. I'm gonna try a new FTP program, but does anyone have any idea why it wasn't working? The file was a PHPBB template.

The error I get is this: Transfer channel can't be opened. Reason: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

Can't really answer that question, but...

Regular ol' FTP is a poor choice for transferring data anyway! Combined with SSH and SCP, however, SFTP rocks!!! It's the best of all possible worlds...

Unless you have a specific reason for using FTP, I would suggest that you download an app called WinSCP and start using Secure Shell instead.

You're paying for this added security/functionality - you might as well take advantage of it, yes?

BTW, Tech Support needs to enable SSH for your account. So, if you haven't already done so, fire off a ticket and ask them to 'turn it on' for you... Only takes a few minutes!

Alright I'll try that. The reason I was using FTP, is because it was reccomended to me. I don't really understand any of this stuff.

FTP is a very old file transfer protocol. The only reason it's still around, IMHO, is because it offers error correction, e.g. it will resend corrupt data until it is error-free. Most other transfer protocols will detect errors during transfer, but they do not (natively) provide error correction or recovery.

Anyway, without turning this into a diatribe, WinSCP is the way to go...
